New Assassin’s Creed Mirage trailer confirms Order of Ancients leaks

Ubisoft has just dropped a brand new story trailer for Assassin's Creed Mirage and it confirms an interesting leak regarding AC Mirage's enemies in-game.

Ubisoft’s new Assassin’s Creed game might just be one of the best Assassin’s Creed games of all time, and we’re here for it. The new Assassin’s Creed Mirage story trailer doesn’t just offer us a new look at the djinn haunting Basim, and Roshan in action, but it also confirms a rather interesting leak when it comes to the Order of the Ancients’ role in Assassin’s Creed Mirage and how many primary targets Basim will need to eliminate in order to help the Assassins re-establish order in ninth-century Baghdad.

Prior to the announcement of the Assassin’s Creed Mirage release date, French-speaking leaker ‘j0nathon‘ claimed that players will be met with four targets to assassinate from the Order of the Ancients – a precursor faction to the Templars and the main antagonists in Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla.

In the video below, which we thought made Assassin’s Creed Mirage sound a lot more like IO Interactive’s Hitman than we expected, you can find this claim at around the 09:10 mark. Although, you may need to use YouTube’s auto-translated closed captions to find this information, unless you speak fluent French.

So, how does the new Assassin’s Creed Mirage story trailer confirm that there’s four Order of the Ancients targets for you to take out? Well, as you can see for yourself below, as Roshan explains what the Order of the Ancients actually is – presumably to Basim – we see four members of the Order wearing four distinctly different masks. If you’ve played Assassin’s Creed Origins, Odyssey, or Valhalla, you’ll know that these masks are worn by members of the Order – and we don’t think Ubisoft is going to change that anytime soon.

If you look at around the 01:00 mark, you’ll see one mask stylized with a beard, one with a headress design that protrudes at the ears, one with an upwards-turning moustache design and a headwrap, and final one with cloth covering the mouth area.

While we do think there might be another main antagonist in this game, these four members of the Order of the Ancients should make up the main enemies of the game’s narrative – with each one tied to a district of Baghdad in-game.

When you think about the fact that Assassin’s Creed Valhalla presented players with 45 Order of the Ancients targets to eliminate, the fact that Mirage is only presenting players with four to take out is a little alarming. However, those targets in Valhalla are – more often than not – mini-boss enemies that you find roaming the map. There’s little to no character development and they’re just there to provide you with a bit more of a challenge while out exploring.

Of course, there are a few that are developed beyond that, but they’re tied into main story missions – so, they’re unavoidable. Personally, I expect each of the four targets in Assassin’s Creed Mirage to be fully fleshed out characters – important to the narrative and Basim’s development as a character. So, I don’t think it’s a bad thing to have fewer of them available. If anything, it allows Ubisoft to expand upon them more and – with any luck – make them more of a challenge to take out.

Is Assassin’s Creed Mirage going to be one of the best PS5 RPG games and best Xbox RPG games available? It’s hard to say; it’s certainly not going to be as in depth as other games on that list. However, it’s one of our most anticipated upcoming PS5 games and upcoming Xbox games – and, so far, we’re impressed with what we have seen.
