Assassin’s Creed Mirage has more than one homage to series’ origins

Ubisoft didn't mention an Assassin's Creed 1 remake but it looks like Alamut from the 2007 release is going to play an important part in Assassin's Creed Mirage

We know we said a Basim-led Assassin’s Creed is essential for more than one reason, but paying homage to the original Assassin’s Creed game wasn’t exactly one of those reasons – however, we’re totally here for it. Despite the fact that evidence for an Assassin’s Creed 1 remake was mounting earlier in the year, it looks as though we’re not going to be getting one – at least for some time yet. That doesn’t mean Ubisoft has forgotten about the first Assassin’s Creed game – it’s actually far from it. Alamut, the iconic fortification that acts as a capital for the Hidden Ones (and Assassins) is going to play an important part in Assassin’s Creed Mirage.

Through the Assassin’s Creed Mirage webpage, Ubisoft has revealed that players will be able to “journey to Alamut, the legendary home of the Assassins who laid the foundations of the Creed in this heartfelt homage to the game that started it all”.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is set to take place around twenty years before Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, meaning it’s going to be set roughly 300 years before the events of Assassin’s Creed and any appearances of Altair Ibn-La’Ahad.

That being said, this is still going to be a location die-hard Assassin’s Creed fans will be familiar with and it’s one place we can’t wait to explore further for ourselves when the Assassin’s Creed Mirage release date arrives.

If you’re someone who hasn’t played a lot of Assassin’s Creed games in the past, you might be surprised to know that this won’t technically be the first time Alamut pops up in an Assassin’s Creed game – and additional Assassin’s Creed media – outside of the 2007 title. It will, however, be the first fully-fledged appearance of the iconic location in well over ten years.

This location is mentioned in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla – as somewhere where the Hidden Ones invite Hytham to provide an account on Basim’s apparent betrayal – and it is mentioned in Assassin’s Creed Rogue – as a location Edward Kenway travels in search of ancient Isu sites. While Ezio does find Altair in an ancient Isu site in Assassin’s Creed Revelations, this is actually in Masyaf – not Alamut – despite the original protagonist spending much of his life isolated there.

Interestingly, despite not knowing too much about what’s to come in Assassin’s Creed Mirage, this is not the only homage to the series’ past revealed during Ubisoft’s announcements. As you can see below, thanks to the comparison video from ‘PairedMan’, several iconic shots from the original Assassin’s Creed II trailer have been recreated in the recently-released Assassin’s Creed Mirage trailer.

So… Even if you’re not too big on Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Basim, there are a lot of reasons to look forward to Assassin’s Creed Mirage and the return of Alamut is just one example. The future of the series as a whole is also bright, with Assassin’s Creed Infinity’s Project Hexe and Assassin’s Creed Infinity’s Project Red both on the horizon.
