Apex Legends’ Catalyst might have abilities like Valorant’s Viper

Apex Legends' Season 15 launch trailer has just dropped and it hints at what Catalyst is bringing to the battle royale - and it's a lot like Valorant's Viper

It’s almost here, folks. Apex Legends’ Season 15 start date is right around the corner and Respawn Entertainment has just released the Eclipse launch trailer – there’s so much to unpack. We know Apex Legends’ Revenant can break out of bounds in the new map teaser, but this is our best look at what’s to come from this battle royale’s lunar-located arena next. However, Catalyst takes centre stage in this cinematic and we can’t help but compare her to Valorant’s Viper.

What do we mean by this? Well, while we don’t have confirmation just yet that Apex Legends’ Catalyst leaked abilities are accurate, the Eclipse launch trailer does show the new terraforming legend throwing up a rather large wall of ferrofluid – something that looks strikingly similar to Viper’s Toxic Screen signature ability in Valorant.

Adding to this, a little earlier in the new cinematic, we see Catalyst launch a puddle of ferrofluid at Maggie and Fuse. This appears to stop them in their tracks, leaving them open to attack from Catalyst and her squad – made up of Bloodhound and Rampart.

While there’s no telling what exactly this strange puddle of ferrofluid will do in-game, it does look like it’s going to slow enemies at the very least – just like the giant wall Catalyst throws up slows Octane as he tries to run through it. Can you see where we’re going with this?

That’s right. Even though this cinematic only offers a small insight into what Catalyst can do with her ferrofluid, it sounds a lot like she’s going to be able to use it in a similar way to Viper’s Snake Bite basic ability. In Valorant, this ability has Viper launch a chemical canister at the ground, which shatters to create a lingering chemical splash that damages and applies the Vulnerable status effect.

At the moment, we don’t know for sure if Catalyst’s ferrofluid pool will apply any sort of status effects or damage to opponents, but it certainly looks like it’s going to slow them down. You can also check all of this out for yourself below:

Of course, it’s worth noting that we don’t know for certain that Catalyst will have access to any of the abilities discussed above. However, much like the last Apex Legends seasonal launch trailer, and the one before that, it’s usually quite obvious which parts are teasing a legend’s abilities and which aren’t. So, while Apex Legends’ Catalyst is a terraformer coming for Gibraltar’s crown, we also think she’s going to be a little bit of a Controller like Valorant’s Viper.

We know this is one of the best battle royale games out there right now, but we never said Apex Legends was totally original; Respawn Entertainment is just great at adapting features from other games and pioneering them in this fantastic competitive FPS game.
