We don’t know about you, but if we had a Barbie DreamHouse and it didn’t come with a hot pink Xbox, we wouldn’t want it. Okay, that might be stretching the truth a little bit – we wouldn’t want to pass up on a slide from our bedroom to our pool, either – but Microsoft has just unveiled a brand new custom Barbie themed Xbox Series S and it’s just fabulous. If you don’t need a new console, though, there’s still a way for you to bring some serious Kenergy to your best Xbox controllers, so don’t worry. Xbox has also revealed a set of interchangeable Wireless Controller faceplates featuring designs based on outfits we’ll see in Greta Gerwig’s movie this Summer. There’s just one catch you need to know about: it’s a one-off.
Yes, that’s right – we can’t quite believe it either. You could actually be playing some of the best Xbox games of all time on a Barbie-themed console in the future. Not only that, but a console built into the ground floor of a literal Barbie DreamHouse. How cool is that? Well, it would be a lot cooler if there was more than one available.
As explained in this Xbox Wire post that covers all the details about Xbox’s collaboration with Barbie ahead of the movie’s release date, Microsoft is “giving away an Xbox Series S that has been built into the glamorous Barbie DreamHouse”. As you can see below, you might need a bit of space in your set-up if you get your hands on it – the DreamHouse is a lot of real estate.
You can also see the five Xbox Wireless Controller faceplates below, too. Starting from July 10, Xbox fans will be able to enter a competition via Xbox on social media platforms and the Microsoft Rewards program to win both the DreamHouse console and the set of Xbox Wireless controller faceplates.
That’s actually the sad part about all this, though. We hate to tell you this, but it doesn’t actually look like you’ll be able to purchase these items yourself. It’s all something of a promotional one-off, a competition reward and nothing more. Xbox hasn’t mentioned anything about these items being available to buy just yet, and we’re not sure that’s going to change – as much as we hope it would. We’ve seen similar announcements made in the past and, when the items themselves are available to purchase, pricing information and a release date is almost always included.
We’re not saying they won’t be available at some point, but it does seem unlikely right now. That’s not very Barbie, is it, Xbox?
