Following the mysterious announcement that a new The Witcher game is in development using Unreal Engine 5, CD Projekt Red has confirmed that the studio’s Project Canis Majoris is actually a full remake of the first Witcher game. If you’re wondering when this drops, we have everything you need to know about The Witcher Remake release date right here.
Originally released in 2007 as a PC exclusive, The Witcher kicks off Geralt of Rivia’s journey with a narrative inspired by The Witcher novel series by Andrzej Sapkowski. Interestingly, the story itself is set after the events of the main series, and preceeds The Witcher 2 Assassin of Kings and The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt. A console version was planned, with the title ‘The Witcher Rise of the White Wolf’, but this was ultimately terminated.
The Witcher Remake release date speculation
But, things are changing and you can look forward to playing The Witcher Remake on consoles soon. CD Projekt Red is working with Polish studio Fool’s Theory to rebuilt The Witcher using Unreal Engine 5.
At the moment, CD Projekt Red has not announced The Witcher Remake release date – and we have no idea if this will be available in 2023 or beyond.
If you want to check out the announcement of this title, you can find that information in The Witcher website blog post here.
The Witcher Remake trailers, gameplay, and more
As you might imagine, there’s no information regarding The Witcher Remake’s gameplay – and there’s no trailers to talk about, yet.
However, we would expect this game to be a third-person action-adventure RPG – just like the original The Witcher release, and the subequent sequels. We will update this guide when more information is available, but expect something familiar from this title.
Will this be the best PS5 RPG game and best Xbox Series X RPG game when it comes out? Only time will tell, but we can hope so. The Witcher 3 is, after all, something of a classic.
