Eyes up, sci-fi fans. Telltale Games has just confirmed when we can play the first of The Expanse game episodes to come in the hotly anticipated The Expanse A Telltale Series and it’s safe to say that we’re very excited. If Telltale Games’ portfolio of previous work is anything to go by, this could be one of the best RPG games available when it arrives. However, whether this can live up to the lofty expectations remains to be seen.

If you can’t wait to find out whether you were right to look forward to this or not, the first episode of this game – which confirms the official The Expanse game release date – will be available on July 27. It’s going to be available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, and PC via the Epic Games Store. So, unless you only own a Nintendo Switch, you should be able to enjoy it on any platform you’d like. Following on from this, in a similar fashion to the weekly release of The Expanse on Amazon Prime, Telltale Games will release a new episode of The Expanse game every two weeks; there will be five in total.

This means episode one of The Expanse game will release on Thursday July 27, then episode two should release on Thursday August 10, then episode three on Thursday August 24, episode four on Thursday September 7, and then the final episode on Thursday September 21.

If you’re wondering what The Expanse game is all about, you’ll be pleased to know that it’s going to serve as something of a prequel to the hit Amazon Prime series. Following Cara Gee’s Camina Drummer, players will need to navigate The Belt – a ring of asteroids colonised by humans in the 23rd century – as part of a scavenger crew hunting for a currently-unknown treasure.

Particularly, along with the crew of the Rocinante, Drummer will uncover a piece of alien technology that – tied to a deep conspiracy – will bring the entire solar system to the brink of war. The stakes are high, so expect a lot of drama and – in true Telltale fashion – some tough choices.

Beyond that, though, Telltale Games is keeping quiet about the details – as you might expect. However, we should learn how Drummer found herself with Anderson Dawes and the Outer Planets Alliance – with any luck. Telltale Games has confirmed we’re seeing some characters from the show in-game, as you can see below, so there’s hope. Telltale Games certainly isn’t afraid of sprinkling these sorts of things in – just look at its’ Walking Dead games.

However, it’s hard to pinpoint the timeline between this narrative and the story being told in the Amazon Prime series – without any details. But, this still should provide fans of the show with some interesting insights into the character’s past.

If you’re not a huge fan of The Expanse, though, you should still check this out. From the snippets of gameplay we’ve seen so far, this looks like a game that is going to offer players much more freedom than previous Telltale Games. When you look back at the first Walking Dead game, for example, you’re met with little more than a walking simulator tacked onto a conversation-based RPG. The upcoming Expanse game, though, looks like a fantastic improvement on that – while keeping all the impactful decision-making that makes these games tick, of course.

Is this going to be one of the best PS5 RPG games and best Xbox RPG games when it comes out? Well, if Telltale Games are on form with it, we certianly think it could be a contender. However, we’ll just have to wait and see.
