Bethesda knows it’s got a gem in its hands with The Elder Scrolls series, and we’ve all been eager to learn anything – and we mean anything – about The Elder Scrolls 6. To rub it in our faces even more, Bethesda has revealed that the team is enjoying playing early builds of TES 6 right now, leaving us yearning for another trip to Tamriel.
To celebrate 30 years of The Elder Scrolls, one of the best RPG games series of all time, Bethesda released a heartfelt post reminiscing about the past three decades of the franchise. Yes, it really has been that long. In fact, it’s been about 13 years since Skyrim arrived, a game that is impossible to leave off any list of the best open-world games.
However, towards the end of this lengthy lament, Bethesda cheekily mentions that the developers are already hands-on with TES 6. “Last but not least, yes, we are in development of the next chapter – The Elder Scrolls 6. Even now, returning to Tamriel and playing early builds has us filled with the same joy, excitement, and promise of adventure,” the post reads.
After the long-awaited sequel was announced back in 2018, it took a staggering five years before the studio confirmed that TES 6 had left the pre-production phase and had officially moved into early development. While we’re still undoubtedly a very long way away from The Elder Scrolls 6 release date, it’s at least good news that it’s coming along well.
Frustratingly though, Bethesda coyly skirts around revealing the setting of the new Xbox game, simply namedropping “Tamriel”. In other words, it could still be anywhere in the vast continent. It’s possible it’s somewhere we’ve been before, such as in The Elder Scrolls Online – one of the best multiplayer games – which is slowly but surely adding every major region. So, if you’re looking to get in the mood, that’s your best bet.
Right now, it’s also unclear whether The Elder Scrolls 6 will be an Xbox exclusive – or, perhaps more accurately, how long for. Since Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda, it was assumed that all its core titles would be exclusive to Xbox and PC, hitting Game Pass on day one. While Starfield is still yet to be seen on PS5, a number of other exclusive titles have made the jump to PlayStation, such as Hi-Fi Rush and Sea of Thieves, and more of the best Xbox games are likely on the way. With many theorizing Starfield will eventually join the ranks of the best PS5 games, it’s possible that TES 6 could too.
Nevertheless, Bethesda’s reflective post closes by thanking all its fans, no matter where they play. “Thank you again for supporting us all these decades and all you have brought to the games, making them your own. We couldn’t be more excited to continue it and celebrate the next 30 years.” 30 years more, eh? At the current rate, that’s at least getting us to The Elder Scrolls 7…
While we once again sit and wait for our next Elder Scrolls morsel, why not take a look at the rumored Xbox handheld console that could change how you play your favorite games? On the other hand, find out all about the biggest upcoming Xbox exclusive that you probably forgot exists.
