One of the hardest fights in the early part of the latest Star Wars game is the Star Wars Jedi Survivor rancor fight. Found in a cave on Koboh, this creature is a vicious and cutthroat beast that has already murdered a number of prospectors and it has you next on the menu.
In order to beat it, you will need to find a few of the Star Wars Jedi Survivor Stim locations, preferably having about four or five in total so you can fight your way through the fight. Below, you can find some core tips to beating the fight that we learnt when we took on the rancor during our Star Wars Jedi Survivor review playthrough.
How to beat the Star Wars Jedi Survivor rancor fight
The beat the rancor fight in Star Wars Jedi Survivor, you need to do the following:
- Use the Dual Wield stance – While you lose some range, this allows you to stagger the rancor easily with a flurry of attacks
- Block any normal attacks – Unless you are at a distance, block as many of the rancor’s basic attacks as you can to stagger it
- Dodge twice when he tries to grab – this unblockable red attack can kill you in one hit so dodge twice to the side as he gets ready to grab
- Grab a bone – Force Pull a bone and throw it into the rancor’s mouth to land some free hits
The top tip for beating this fight is to use the Dual Wield stance. The goal when fighting the rancor is to try and stagger it as much as possible and the fast hits with this stance mean that you don’t have to worry about being locked into an attack animation as the hits are so quick. They can also build up stagger far faster than any other stance in the game.
Paired with this, you want to block its most common attack, which are two slams or swipes. These can be blocked, alongside simple swipes that the rancor does when up close.
Any stomps should be jumped over as they will create a shockwave, alongside slams that have an extended wind-up time, as they will cause a shockwave upon impact. But, if you stick close enough to the rancor or dodge away you shouldn’t have to worry about these attacks too often.
During these basic attacks you can also selectively use your automatic parry that come with the Dual Stance. This will immediately stagger the Rancor and allow you to get 4-7 hits in depending on how quickly it attacks after being staggered.
It should only be done selectively though as the rancor can very easily catch you off guard with an attack that this doesn’t protect you from.
The big attack you want to watch out for with the Rancor is his unblockable grab. This is telegraphed by the red shimmer over the Rancor as well as his growl. The lunge forward he does is quite fast, but just before he attacks, you want to dodge either left or right two or three times, preferably slightly forward too.
This will allow you to dodge through his grab and also stick close to him to follow up with a flurry of hits yourself. This attack will kill you in one hit if you don’t dodge it so it’s important to nail this timing.
One final thing you can do is pick up a bone in the arena and throw it into the rancor’s mouth when it is facing you. This only works once but it does allow you to get some extra hits.
With these tips, you should be able to make short work of the rancor and complete the Find Missing Prospectors Rumor. At the end, you will get yourself a nice bit of XP you can use to buy one of the best skills in Star Wars Jedi Survivor and the Shatter perk.
