Fighting the Los Iluminados cult in Resident Evil 4 often feels badass but it is still nonetheless a terrifying endeavour when your ammunition starts to run out. However, with the Resident Evil 4 Handcannon, defeating every devilish foe can be a piece of cake. With the arrival of Resident Evil 4 Mercenaries mode, expert RE players are banding together to get through the chaos together.
Over on the Resident Evil 4 subreddit, fans of the RE4 remake are pooling their knowledge together to beat the game as efficiently as possible. Redditor ‘Zairy47‘ explains that the “Handcannon is difficult to get…but, you can get it by getting S rank in all 3 Mercenaries stages.”
While this might seem like a daunting task, the avid Resident Evil 4 remake fan says they “finished hardcore yesterday […] so I was playing Mercenaries just now and got S with Leon in Village, Luis in Castle and Krauser in Island…got a message [that] I unlocked Hunk […] then I got a message saying I can buy the Handcannon in the bonus shop.”
Normally it is unlocked by completing the game on professional difficulty, without the usage of bonus weapons. However, the arrival of Mercenaries mode means it is far easier to acquire. The Handcannon is a highly powerful revolver sidearm that can deal one-shot damage in most situations.
YouTuber ‘Gaming With Griff Griffin‘ attests to this new methodology too. “Mercenaries mode gives you an alternative way to unlock the Handcannon, and as I say it’s a much easier time [for players]. This thing is now attainable for the average player,” says the YouTuber. As long as players get S-Rank in all three stages of RE4 Mercenaries mode, then you’ll be on your way to pistol heaven.
Each character in Mercenaries mode has their own special ability too, making it a breeze to cut through enemies and acquire that coveted S-Rank. Redditor ‘KamiAth’ echoes the YouTuber’s methods, saying that “it’s very easy, you can even die and still keep the score unlike in old RE4-6 Mercs. The new highest rank is S++.”
