People have been playing Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege for what feels like forever, with more and more players picking the game up every year. The popular first-person shooter evolves over time, offering more complex gameplay and varied missions, keeping a loyal and dedicated fanbase engaged.
But Siege is famously complicated, an enticing yet difficult game for newcomers, and one with a steep difficulty curve. Even those who have been playing since release in 2015 occasionally find themselves wondering what they could have done to make their playstyle more effective and keep climing up the Rainbow Six Siege ranks. With so much to keep an eye on, and so many options at every turn, especially when it comes to the best Rainbow Six siege operators for ranked play, playing Siege for the first time can seem a little overwhelming.
Luckily, it doesn’t have to be so daunting, as Will Dean and his team have come up with a solution: the TRN Rainbow Six Siege Tracker. We spoke to Dean to get an idea of how newcomers and veteran players alike can get the most out of Rainbow Six Siege Tracker.
Big ideas
Dean was originally hired to keep an eye on various Rainbow Six products at Tracker Network, finding issues with already existing Tracker software and working out how to make it better. After a year or so, his knowledge of what makes Rainbow Six such a thrilling – yet difficult – game was already finely honed, and he began to conceptualise a new app for Version 3 that would allow players more stats and insights. “Ubisoft provides limited data in their APIs, we wanted to create a new app that allowed us to get more stats by utilising Overwolf’s API. This allowed us to provide more detailed insights to users and better satisfy their wishes.”
The first version of the Rainbow Six Siege app launched in March of 2019, with Dean’s revised and revamped Version 3 coming out in 2022. “Version 3 brought many of the features from our wishlist to life, and we’ve still got more to add,” he says, confident that the app will continue to adapt and grow. “It was a very quick turnaround, we were concepting, designing, programming, and testing all at the same time, the progress was very swift and efficient.”
Best for newcomers
Dean started playing Siege five years ago, so even he was a newcomer at one point. The Tracker app acknowledges this with a user-friendly approach for all levels. “Siege is a complex game,” he admits, “it has a very steep learning curve for new players. There are so many different decisions to make, which of those are working, which are not?”
The TRN Rainbow Six Siege Tracker is one of the most powerful tools for those who are new to the game. “It can be hard to tell how best to play without our app. We show users what’s working for them, who their best teammates are, video highlights to review their deaths and how they could have been avoided, the ability to review all of their previous matches in detail, and more.”
This information won’t all come flooding in at once though – you’ll find it all neatly stored on the app’s homepage. As you play more and more games, the amount of stats and the detail of the suggestions will increase, learning from your playstyle and offering crucial insights. “After a good amount of matches, you’ll get useful statistics with all the operators and weapons you’ve played, along with your performance on each map,” explains Dean. “The results shown might surprise you, you should focus on your win rates and take advantage of your strengths and understand what your weaknesses are.”
And for long-time fans
The folks at Tracker Network haven’t forgotten those who have been putting hours into Siege for years. In fact, they can enjoy insights you wouldn’t find anywhere else once the app is installed. “Veteran players often want to grind certain operators or weapons and see their general progression,” says Dean. “Our app provides for those players, they can see stats that aren’t usually available and plot their progression over time on a graph if they wish.”
With the Tracker running in the background as you play, even the most gifted and accomplished player will be shown suggestions on how to improve and a map of their performance over time. If you’ve ever felt like you’ve hit a wall with your skill level, download Rainbow Six Siege Tracker for an immediate boost.
The app is very close to 2 million downloads, and for good reason. Dean comments that “we’re seeing a big surge of users returning to Siege since the release of the latest season, it’s really fantastic to see that. We’ve also had great feedback from the new app and user retention has shot up.”
What’s next?
Dean isn’t shy talking about upcoming additions to the Tracker app, and each of these additions is sure to give you that boost you need to play amongst champions. “We have a number of additional features coming to the Rainbow Six app,” he reveals, “One of those features is a detailed round timeline within the match reports. You’ll be able to review all the round events on a timeline, such as who, when and how you killed someone, when the defuser was planted, and video clips to accompany those events if you wish.”
As Rainbow Six evolves and develops, so does the Tracker, and the new features list just keeps growing longer. Dean explains that, “with the introduction of Ranked 2.0, it can be hard to judge the true skill of your teammates and opponents sometimes, so we’ll have some better performance metrics soon which will give users a better indication on the difficulty of the current match.”
“We’ve got a massive list of improvements and new features to implement, we’re excited to push the updates out!”
