What are this month’s PS Plus free games? Regardless of what tier you’re subscribed to, you’ll be treated to a handful of amazing free PS Plus games each month that you can download, play, and keep forever (so long as you stay subscribed, that is). The PS Plus May games lineup is one of the best we’ve seen in a while, boasting some major star power.

It is headlined by FC 24, one of the best sports games out there and one of the best PS5 games when it comes to sales and active players. It’s a massive title to be giving away for free. There are two other full games and Destiny 2’s Lightfall expansion up for grabs too, and you can find out more about all of them below. If you’re left wanting more, you can always get access to the massive PS Plus Extra and Premium games list if you decide to upgrade your subscription tier.

PS Plus free games May 2024

The PS Plus free games for May 2024 are:

  • EA Sports FC 24 – PS4 and PS5
  • Tunic – PS4 and PS5
  • Ghostrunner – PS5 only
  • Destiny 2 Lightfall – PS4 and PS5

Compared to last month’s lineup, which was a bit underwhelming with EA’s magical FPS Immortals of Aveum being the headliner, this month’s offering is absolutely excellent. Even if you forget about the two big-hitters in Destiny and EA FC, Tunic and Ghostrunner are two fairly recent and well-reviewed games.

From May 7, all of these games will be available to claim. Tunic, Ghostrunner, and Lightfall are all claimable until June 3, but FC 24 will stick around until June 14. Even if you don’t have the time to play them this month, we always encourage you to redeem them, as they’ll stay in your library indefinitely, so long as you have a PS Plus sub active.

FC 24

Yes, it’s only really got a shelf life of about five months until FC 25 inevitably launches in late September/ early October. However, the fact that PS Plus is giving away one of the best selling games of both last year and this year so far is pretty awesome, and something you shouldn’t pass up on.

Chances are, if you’re a soccer fan you already own FC 24, so we won’t give you the usual spiel about how its got thousands of authentic teams, players, leagues, kits, and stadiums. There’s still fun to be had though even if you’re not that into soccer.

The online Pro Clubs mode is one of the best co-op game experiences out there and will likely leave you and your pals in stitches. Career Mode and Kick Off let you play single-player and there are loads of difficulty settings and sliders you can use to ease yourself in. And if you feel like making a step up, Ultimate Team is always there as an always-on, live service multiplayer mode that will keep you engrossed.

Tunic

While Tunic’s foxy protagonist may go down as one of this decade’s most adorable videogame characters, this charming action-adventure game has a lot more going for it than that.

Tunic has a combat system than leans into the style of the best Souls like games around, with mostly sword-based combat and dodging being key components. It manages to be both challenging and enjoyable, and is much more technical than you’d expect when giving Tunic a first glance.

It also challenges your problem solving, with no clear, spelled-out directions to guide you through its world. A regular run is only going to set you back about 11 or 12 hours, so it’s a fairly short but incredibly sweet adventure that’s definitely worth claiming and playing.

Ghostrunner

With a first-person perspective, slick melee combat and traversal, and a glorious cyberpunk aesthetic, Ghostrunner is one of the most badass PlayStation games of recent years.

When it first dropped in 2020, it’s satisfying and intense gameplay loop had us totally addicted. The rapid movement and the savage sword attacks are the perfect combination and it’s hard to put down. There’s even slow motion bullet dodging – and as you’re well aware from that totally official study that one time, 100% of games with slow mo are amazing. It’s science, trust us.

Destiny 2 Lightfall

The base game of Destiny 2 is already one of the best free shooting games out there, but you’ve got to cough up cash if you want to access a lot of its seasonal and expansion content. Well, here’s your chance to grab the most recent expansion, Lightfall, totally free with PS Plus ahead of the Destiny 2 Final Shape release date.

Now, Lightfall is by no means the best expansion Destiny has ever put out, as our Lightfall review attests. It’s storyline is comically bad at points, and it’s just not of the same narrative standards as its predecessor, The Witch Queen. However, with the introduction of the Strand subclass (which is absolutely amazing) and the cool new destination of Neomuna, it’s more than worth a playthrough. If The Final Shape is tempting you to begin your Destiny 2 journey or return to the game after a period away, here’s a cost-effective way to get back into things and get prepped, story-wise.

So that’s our rundown of the three freebies being offered to PS Plus subscribers for May 2024. Remember, if you’re reading this before May 7 when these games become redeemable, there are still last month’s games to claim. The April lineup is:

  • Immortals of Aveum
  • Skul: The Hero Slayer
  • Minecraft Legends
