For all the good Blizzard has done when it comes to Overwatch 2 and breathing new life into a declining franchise, it’s also seemingly doing quite a lot of damage to the hero shooter’s reputation. Unpopular monetisation features aside, there seems to be something of a steady stream when it comes to game-altering bugs and broken exploits. Right now, there’s a way for you to insta-heal as Mercy in Overwatch 2 – but, it comes as a cost and players can’t quite work out whether it’s a bug or an intended feature.
Shared online initially by Overwatch 2 content creator ‘ML7‘ and then to the Overwatch subreddit by ‘UGC_GoldHunter‘, the footage showcasing this incredible Mercy trick clearly highlights that there’s a way for Support mains to fully heal their teammates in an instant – which, would certainly bump her up on our Overwatch 2 tier list. However, it comes at quite a cost – as we’ve mentioned above – and that cost is that you have to ALT+F4 while you’re doing it.
If you’re not sure what this keyboard shortcut does, don’t try it before you know – because, it might come as a bit of a shock. ALT+F4 is an input that, unless you’ve specifically overridden it, closes the active window on your computer.
What does this mean? Well, it means that you’re going to need to force-quit your game of Overwatch 2 if you want to take advantage of this insta-heal Mercy bug. It’s safe to say that this is a longshot from one of the best competitive FPS games nowadays, isn’t it? If you want to see what it looks like in action, you can check out the footage below:

Now, we know this is something of a clutch play that could win your team the match, but it’s not worth doing unless you’re confident you can boot up Overwatch 2 again and rejoin the game-in-progress before it’s over. It’s also worth noting that we don’t know if this will work on console versions of the game – but, if you really want to try it out, we can only assume that turning off your console manually will do the trick.
Interestingly, though, some Overwatch 2 players think this should actually be introduced as an intended feature – not just when a Mercy disconnects, but also when they die. A burst of healing when an active Mercy dies could actually be quite an interesting way of changing how team fights play out, but that’s a conversation for another day.
Right now, we’re just amazed that there’s yet-another strange bug in Overwatch 2. We know Mercy is one of the best Overwatch 2 support heroes, but this is something else. This discovery comes just hours after a new Overwatch 2 Bastion bug was found that could see him disabled from the live game again.
