For a long while, Call of Duty games like Warzone were the butt of any joke around console storage space and file sizes. The battle royale, before going on a file size-shrinking diet, would commandeer a huge chunk of your internal storage, as do the likes of Black Ops Cold War and . But with the imminent release of NBA 2K23, Xbox players may have a new game to poke fun at when it comes to hogging storage space.
As first spotted by MP1st, the ability to pre-install NBA 2K23 on Xbox Series X|S has shown just how chunky this year’s iteration of the basketball game is going to be. The NBA 2K23 file size weighs in at 152 GB, making it one of the biggest games on the platform right now.
This dwarfs plenty of titles that would be perceived to have rather hefty file sizes. According to listings on the Xbox Store, the now slimmed-down Warzone has a file size of 95 GB, GTA V is 96 GB, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla comes in at 112 GB, and Forza Horizon 5 will take up 119 GB of your storage space. It’s even bigger than the massive survival game ARK: Survival Evolved, which has a file size of just under 150 GB.
This enormous NBA 2K23 file size is also the equivalent of two Halo Infinites, or more than three Elden Rings.
It’s also swelled considerably compared to last year’s game, with NBA 2K22 coming in at under 120 GB on all platforms.
NBA 2K games are always crammed with plenty of great content, but hardly anyone anticipated 2K23 to be the size it is.
Let’s just hope that there aren’t too many more upcoming Xbox Series X games with file sizes on that scale, as you might have to do some serious storage space management…
