Are you looking forward to NetherRealm Studios’ Mortal Kombat 1 yet? Well, if not, maybe you need to check out this new Mortal Kombat 1 trailer starring Dave Bautista. Yes, that Dave Bautista. MK1 has the potential to be one of the best fighting games we’ve ever seen, and we’re never going to complain about Bautista content. However, while you might think it’s a little unusual, it’s actually paying homage to one of the series’ most iconic adverts – one which aired 30 years go.

Ahead of Mortal Kombat 1 early access and the full Mortal Kombat 1 release date, NetherRealm Studios reveals a brand new “It’s In Our Blood” trailer paying homage to the 1993 “Mortal Monday” TV advert – one released for the original Mortal Kombat game. This trailer was directed by the ever-talented Tom Kuntz with cinematography by Matthew Libatique – who worked on A Star Is Born, Black Swan, and Mother! Oh, and of course, it also stars WWE superstar and actor Dave Bautista; you may recognize him from the MCU’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Army of the Dead, or Blade Runner 2049.

Showcasing that anyone and everyone can harness the force of Mortal Kombat, the advert itself shows Batista rallying random people to the call of “Mortal Kombat” – highlighting that this is a new era for the franchise.

On this new trailer, series co-creator Ed Boon says “it’s amazing to pay homage to such a memorable moment in Mortal Kombat history as we get ready to launch our newest game”. Bautista also says that he is “very thrilled and honored to be a part of the game’s legacy” after sharing that he “vividly remembers” the original Mortal Kombat commercial – of which this pays homage.

So, it’s not exactly the same, but it’s pretty close considering and a wonderful homage to the series’ origins. You can also check out General Shao and Sindel getting bloody in this MK1 character trailer right here.

It’s also worth reading up on all the MK1 characters confirmed so far and how Mortal Kombat 1’s Invasion mode is like Mario Party more blood and guts. Fighting is the core of this game, but NetherRealm Studios are innovating when it comes to how it’s going to present that to players.
