Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man 2 is a certified hit with PS5 players and, even though it’s only been out for a handful of blissful days, you have flocked to the title in your millions. In fact, although a little vague, new Spider-Man 2 sales numbers from PlayStation reveal that this is the fastest-selling PlayStation Studios game of all time – which is a truly staggering achievement when you look at the competition.
When it comes to all the new PS5 games we have been able to look forward to this year, Spider-Man 2 was one many had the highest hopes for. Now we have our hands on the game, we know that those hopes were far from misplaced. This is easily one of the best exclusives out there, one of the best open world games we’ve played in a long time, and maybe – just maybe – one of the best games on consoles, period. Sure, we’re huge Spider-Man fans here at The Loadout, so it’s easy for us to say all of that; however, we now have numerical evidence from PlayStation that we’re right – although, you should still check out our thoughts on this masterpiece in our Spider-Man 2 review.
Not long after launch, on PlayStation’s official social media channels, it’s being shared that “Spider-Man 2 sold more than 2.5 million copies in the first 24 hours” after launch. That’s right, over 2.5 million players were playing Spider-Man 2 on Day One (or, thereabouts).

For context, God of War Ragnarok reportedly shipped around 5.1 million copies in its first week – which made it the fastest-selling first party PlayStation game at the time. Spider-Man 2 has essentially sold half of that number in just one day, which could mean a truly staggering number of players when the first full week is accounted for.
With any luck, Insomniac Games and PlayStation will keep us all updated in a few days. But, if not, at least we know that Spider-Man 2 is the fastest selling PlayStation Studios title so far – when it comes to a 24 hour period – and we can’t imagine that record will be beat anytime soon.
