With the Marvel Rivals beta taking place on other platforms right now, PS5 and Xbox owners are left to the sidelines. The FOMO is bound to hit hard, too, as clips of Spider-Man and Black Panther dealing damage together on the battlefield look promising. However, your hopes for a Marvel Rivals console port might not be completely dashed. Lurking within the beta are the signs of great things to come.
According to leaker ‘GMatrixGames’ on social media, NetEase’s upcoming free shooting game is likely to launch a new Xbox game and new PS5 game in the future. By digging through the files of the Marvel Rivals beta on Steam, the leaker claims that “they [NetEase] included changes to support the [Xbox] platform. They also have Microsoft Store item IDs for purchasing in-game currency, alongside the PlayStation Store IDs.”
Screenshots posted by GMatrixGames showcase the multiplayer game’s options to “target platforms” and potentially offer microtransactions down the line. Since the game’s reveal earlier this year, the topic of a console port has been a major point of contention. While an official statement on Marvel Rivals’ console port is yet to be revealed, a message in the game’s Discord server certainly sounds like it is in the works.
“The game’s first stop will be on Steam. However, we’re actively exploring potential releases on other platforms. Keep an eye out for further announcements as our universe expands,” says Discord moderator ‘Smexican’. For all your lore-heads out there, the game’s premise is a result of Fantastic Four villain Doctor Doom meddling with the multiverse. After a terrible encounter with his heroic 2099 counterpart, new worlds are created, allowing all manner of Marvel favorites to enter the arena.
Sharing plenty of similarities to Blizzard’s FPS game Overwatch 2, Marvel Rivals will boast a stacked roster of iconic heroes and villains, with the following already confirmed to be at your disposal:
- Spider-Man
- Hulk
- Iron Man
- Doctor Strange
- Black Panther
- Loki
- Star-Lord
- Rocket Raccoon
- Groot, Mantis
- Namor
- Peni Parker
- Magik
- Luna Snow
- Storm
- Magneto
- The Punisher
- Scarlet Witch
- Hela
Marvel Rivals’ current beta will run from Friday, May 10, 2024, until Tuesday, May 21, 2024, and we could get word on the console port soon after.
