Supermassive Games and Bandai Namco have announced that Little Nightmares 3 won’t be arriving in 2024 after all, as the cult hit series’ next installment has been delayed until next year. The pair confirmed the news in a new joint statement, and has asked fans to “bear with” Supermassive as it continues to work towards finishing the PlayStation and Xbox game.
“The teams at Supermassive Games and Bandai Namco Europe have been working hard towards delivering the best experience possible for the next entry in the franchise,” the statement on the upcoming horror game begins. “As much as we can’t wait for you to return to the Nowhere, we also want to make sure we give the game the care and love it deserves. Quality is a top priority for us, and we know you feel the same way. For this reason, we’ve made the decision to shift the release of the game to 2025.”
Though I’m gutted to have to wait that bit longer to meet Alone and Low, Supermassive isn’t going to leave us in the dark. According to the statement, we’ll be hearing more about the game “this summer,” insinuating a new trailer could arrive at Summer Games Fest next week. It’s not what we’re all hoping for, but I’d always rather devs get the time they need to make the best games possible.
Little Nightmares 3 was originally announced last August and marked a major departure for the series. Not only has Supermassive swapped out protagonists Mono and Six for newcomers Alone and Low, but it also debuted a much warmer color palette than the dank visuals we’ve known up until now.
Later, in October, PlayStation shared a bumper 18-minute playthrough showcasing the new co-op game – the first in the series you can play with a pal.
While Little Nightmares 3 is going to have to sit on our new PS5 game and new Xbox game lists for a little longer, I’m excited to see how the final game will shape up. Hopefully, we’ll get another look at it later in the year at The Game Awards, depending on how far into 2025 it’s going to be pushed back.
