League of Legends world champion EDG qualifies for Worlds 2022

League of Legends world champion EDward Gaming is heading to Worlds 2022 after defeating MSI champion Royal Never Give Up in dramatic fashion

League of Legends Worlds 2022 EDG qualifies

Reigning League of Legends world champion EDward Gaming has booked its ticket to LoL Worlds 2022, following a scintillating reverse sweep against reigning Mid-Season Invitational champion Royal Never Give Up in the 2022 LPL Regional Finals.

After the first hour of play, EDG found itself 2-0 down in games. Although the team traditionally deploys the services of Zhao ‘Jiejie’ Li-Jie, substitute jungler Yu ‘JunJia’ Chun-Chia instead started the day’s series – that was until game three when Jiejie made his return to the Rift.

The switch in junglers evidently had a major impact, as EDG began to swing back, taking game after game away from RNG, until a dominant game five performance finally sounded the death knell for RNG – 3-2 EDG.

With the incumbent world champion now qualified for this year’s tournament, it remains to be seen if RNG can lick its wounds and prepare itself for its last chance to qualify – a tie this Sunday against the winner of Victory Five and LNG Esports.

Regardless, it’s exciting to see that the best team at one of the best MOBA games is returning to the world stage to fight for its crown.
