Sometimes it’s easier to get in the mood for League of Legends when you’ve got a banging playlist to help you lane on the Rift. With so much choice nowadays though, it can be hard to find the right musical mix to help you through, but it seems like Spotify has found a solution ahead of the final two weeks of the League of Legends World Championship.
As part of its partnership with Riot Games, the streaming service has created a new digital experience that will determine the playstyle of League of Legends fans before matching them with a pro player or broadcaster and suggesting a unique playlist that’s tailored to their listening habits. The Loadout got a chance to exclusively preview the experience and found it’s a great way of curating your own dedicated gaming playlist.
“We worked with Riot Games to create this experience which has been inspired by the professionals taking part this year,” Spotify tells The Loadout. “The playlists are curated based on the different playstyles and are personalised for each user from their listening behaviors.”
So how does it all work? Well, Spotify will ask you to answer five questions ranging from what runes you’d take to what sort of food you eat when you game. The answers are a tad generic – and maybe a bit too stereotypical – but the result is gold.
Using your answers, Spotify will calculate which professional you play like the most, giving you access to one of five motivating playlists. Even though we’re terrible at League of Legends, we somehow got the Strategic Visionary headed up by Lee ‘Faker’ Sang-hyeok, James ‘Dash’ Patterson, and Søren ‘Bjergsen’ Bjerg giving us some upbeat electro vibes to farm to.
However, Strategic Visionary isn’t going to be everyone’s cup of tea. So if you do get matched with it and you’re not fussed on the music, don’t worry – you can check out the other four by scrolling down to the bottom of the results page.
There’s the Noble Do-Gooder, the Creative Wild One, the Ruthless Warrior, and the Helpful Pacifist, which all focus on different genres. Some feature more laidback, acoustic tunes, while others feature more rocky headbangers.
As Spotify told us earlier this week, there’s something in there for everyone and if you land the right playlist, you can go around telling your next League of Legends ranked teammates that you’re a ruthless warrior, just like Hung ‘Karsa’ Hao-Hsuan.
