Horizon Forbidden West DLC’s new machine promises seamless submersion

Guerrilla Games has just revealed a brand new machine for Horizon Forbidden West's Burning Shores DLC and it promises some truly exciting gameplay options.

Guerrilla Games’ upcoming Horizon Forbidden West DLC expansion, The Burning Shores, is almost upon us and with it comes another exciting new adventure for Aloy where she’ll brush shoulders with faces both familiar and fresh while navigating a post-apocalyptic landscape littered with similarly familiar and fresh machines. On the former, we know very little and we’re not expecting to find out too much before the Horizon Forbidden West Burning Shores DLC release date arrives. On the latter, though, Guerrilla Games has shared some new gameplay footage featuring a brand new machine in action. We’re not going to lie to you, it’s very exciting indeed.

Horizon Forbidden West’s newest machine is called the Waterwing. As you might imagine, this is a flying machine – much like the Sunwing – that can also dive into the depths of the ocean, if you want it to.

As an aquatic mount, the inclusion of the Waterwing in this upcoming Horizon Forbidden West expansion does suggest that Guerrilla Games has doubled down on it’s underwater experience, something which was already pretty excellent, in this expansion.

Interestingly, though, as a flying machine, it also reinforces the theory that Horizon Forbidden West’s Burning Shores DLC is going to take Aloy to places far above the shores themsleves, too. This recent PlayStation Blog post about the updated cloud tech – which is quite interesting in itself – does hint that these volumetric clouds will hide a variety of interesting “tunnels, caves, and other surprises”.

Of course, that could mean anything, but tunnels and caves in the clouds sounds quite exciting – and something we’re hoping is replicated in the depths of the ocean.

We know one Horizon Forbidden West DLC battle will push the PS5 to its limits, but you have to imagine quite a lot of it is going to be breathtaking – just like it was when it first dropped.

This is without a doubt one of the best PS5 open world games out there, and we can’t wait to see where Aloy goes next. If you want to know more about how Horizon Forbidden West found the perfect side quest formula though, ahead of this new DLC, you can here. Trust us, you won’t be disappointed.
