Look alive, Helldivers. The bots may have more super destructive death machines now, but that won’t deter our fight for managed democracy on PS5. The good news is that developer Arrowhead has conjured up a new Helldivers 2 Warbond to assist you out in the field – enter Helldivers 2 Democratic Detonation. The explosive new collection will arrive with a bang on Thursday, April 11.
Boasting five fearsome new weapons, three new armor sets, and an assortment of utility-based and cosmetic goodies, Democratic Detonation could very well give you that incendiary edge you need in the hit multiplayer game. Between the Automatons and new planetary hazards that recently started appearing in the PS5 exclusive, it’s about time the balance of power was restored somewhat.
As we previously reported when the Warbond was initially leaked, Democratic Demolition will supply you with the armor-piercing BR-14 Adjudicator Rifle, the shrapnel shell-firing R-36 Eruptor Rifle, the CB-9 Exploding Crossbow, and the GP-31 Grenade Pistol. Arrowhead’s also dropped the G-123 Thermite Grenade into the co-op game for good measure – a sticky mini-furnace that burns “up to a toasty 2000°C.”
Of course, with all this new explosive power, you’re going to want to deck yourself out with appropriate defensive garments. Here are the three new Helldivers 2 armor sets as well as their descriptions, as per the PlayStation Blog:
- CE-07 Demolition Specialist (Light Armour): Originally worn by Lunar terraformers, this suit can withstand rapid changes in pressure, heat, and personal velocity.
- CE-27 Ground Breaker (Medium Armour): “The ground is just another obstacle that hasn’t yet been cleared.” – SGM Janet Jones, Excavation Corps Founder.
- FS-55 Devastator (Heavy Armour): Domestic versions of this armour allow colonial farmers to safely plant crops and mines side-by-side while staying in one piece.
While Arrowhead doesn’t specify the stats or bonuses each set provides, we’re maintaining our original prediction that improved grenade capacity and explosive damage reduction are on the cards. After all, what’s the point of being a heavy-duty Helldiver without the standard suite of Grenadier boons?
Elsewhere in the bundle, Arrowhead’s icing things off with the Expert Extraction Pilot Booster – a booster that “lowers the time it takes for the extraction shuttle to reach the extraction beacon.” As the cosmetic cherry on top, there are three suitably patriotic capes to mix and match with your shiny new armor: Harbinger of True Equality, Eagle’s Fury, and Freedom’s Tapestry. Fuck yeah, freedom.
