We know games like Fortnite and Apex Legends are both considered among some of the best battle royale games out there, but they really couldn’t be any more different. Well, most of the time, anway. This Fortnightmares, though, Epic Games is borrowing a little something from Respawn Entertainment in the form of the Fortnite Wolfscent ability. This unique feature attributed to the Howler Claws, which are only available in-game during the Fortnightmares event, bear a striking resemblance to parts of Bloodhound’s kit, a tracker from Apex Legends. Allow us to explain.

When you have Fortnite’s Howler Claws equipped, you can activate something called Wolfscent. Available for a limited time before a cooldown period, this ability will give you tracking vision and repeatedly mark enemies in a nearby area. Does this sound at all familiar? Well, if you play Apex Legends, it might. This sounds like a strange amalgamation of Bloodhound’s Eye of the Allfather tactical and Beast of the Hunt ultimate.

Interestingly, to balance this ability, Epic Games has introduced something of a Dead By Daylight-esque heartbeat that will start when you’re being tracked by someone else using the Wolfscent ability’s tracking vision and grow louder the closer they get.

We don’t know about you, but that’s one way to strike fear into someone’s heart while playing a game as bright and colourful as Fortnite.

If you’re looking to get your hands on these Howler Claws yourself, you can do so by heading to one of the new Alteration Altars found around the Reality Tree in-game – although, if you’re too far away from here, you will find that they’re also scattered about the map too.

When you get here, you just need to perform the Ritual emote and complete the ritual that begins in order to get Howler Claws. They can, as we’ve mentioned, help you hunt your next victim. However, they also give you Slash – a four-hit melee combo – and a double-jump ability. So, they’re worth having to hand in the late game.

With a free Fortnite skin up for grabs, thanks to the Fortnightmares challenges, and the confirmation that Evil Dead’s Ash Williams is joining Fortnite for this spooky season, there’s so much to look forward to, right now, when it comes to Epic Games’ epic battle royale.
