PDP has finally lifted the lid on its new Fortnite Festival guitar controller. The Riffmaster works with Fortnite Festival and Rock Band 4 and is available in both PlayStation and Xbox configurations. While set to arrive sometime this Spring, a price has yet to be set.
The all-black Riffmaster wouldn’t look out of place in an ESP or Ibanez line-up, and it looks to be making plenty of improvements over the plastic slabs of yesteryear. As reported by IGN, it sports an ambidextrous design so lefties need not suffer any longer, and features a thumbstick just behind the top of the neck for better ergonomics when scrolling. What’s more, the guitar can simply be folded down for easy storage rather than having to be taken apart.
Internally the Riffmaster is a wireless axe, which means it’s going to need a solid battery life. Don’t fret, though, as it’s rechargeable via USB-C, and at full charge will offer up to 36 hours of play per IGN’s report – tidy. A unique, potential addition to our best PS5 controllers and best Xbox controllers lists, the Riffmaster certainly sounds like it’s got the chops to make it on paper.
This isn’t the first we’ve heard about PDP’s Riffmaster. Last month we reported that the peripheral maker had teased its mighty new axe on Twitter, following confirmation from Epic Games that it was working on bringing instrument support to Fortnite Festival. It’s a bit confusing as to why Festival wasn’t instrument-friendly at launch – they’re the most important part of the experience, after all – but it’s good to see the studio is finally making progress.
