Is Fortnite the best battle royale game ever, or what? After weeks of subtle teasers from Epic Games and rampant rumours from leakers in the community, the day has finally arrived when the Fortnite Dragon Ball Z collaboration has been confirmed – sort of. If you’re not a Dragon Ball Z fan, you might not know what’s going on, but Fortnite has played right into the fan’s hands with a cryptic quote and an image of a glowing golden dragon.

On August 11, Epic Games shared a quote from Dragon Ball Z’s Shenron and an image of what appears to be said dragon glowing brightly above Fortnite Island’s Reality Tree – whose Reality Seeds and Reality Bloom are the driving force behind this season’s narrative, it seems. The quote in question is as follows: “Speak. Name your wish…”

If you’re not a fan of the Dragon Ball Z anime or franchise, you might not know what’s happening – and you might not care a whole lot. That’s okay, this isn’t for everyone and we accept that. Although, you might want to prepare for a bit of a Dragon Ball Z take-over when it comes to Epic Games’ battle royale game.

If you are a fan of Dragon Ball Z, you’ll recognise this as a quote from the third season of the franchise’s main anime series and Shenron as the Eternal Dragon – something of a Dragon God that’s always getting involved with what happens between Vegeta and his pals, amongst other things.

We still don’t know a whole lot about what’s coming in the event, officially anyway, but rumours are that it’s going to be a multi-week collaboration.  In fact, recent Fortnite leaks suggest that the battle royale will get four Dragon Ball Z skins at first. All we know right now is that it’s due to start on August 16 – which makes sense as Epic Games usually updates Fortnite on a Tuesday.

With Naruto getting a second batch not long ago, we could see this number doubled before too long. It’s clear that these anime collaborations are profitable for Epic Games – and it’s clear from the community’s reaction to the aforementioned teaser that it’s something players have been waiting for.
