Did you love the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth demo? Or perhaps you’re on the fence and want to play more before making up your mind. Whichever camp you sit in, you’re in luck as the new FF7 demo update has unlocked a huge new area to explore. It’s also added visual improvements to make the hotly anticipated PS5 exclusive even better than before.

Most excitingly, the update to the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth demo on PS5, which is available for free right now, adds The Dawn of the New Era section to the PS5 exclusive. This takes place much later in the game than the initial chapter we’ve been able to experience in the demo so far. Alongside Tifa, Barret, Aerith, and Red XIII, you can explore the vast area of Junon, including finding treasure, taking on side missions, and more.

Though it’s only a small section of the lush lands of Junon, it includes “content unique to the demo” according to Square Enix – likely so as to not give away too much on what is to be one of the best RPG games and best open-world games. After all, Rebirth does take some creative liberties over its original rendition nearly 30 years ago. It’s important to note that completing the first half of the demo (Nibelheim) will let you skip that section in the full game. However, as this new section is a special preview designed for the demo, your progress in Junon will not carry forward.

Alongside the new area we can’t wait to explore, the FF7 Rebirth demo update also brings with it minor graphical fixes and “improves visual fidelity in Performance Mode”. Prior to this update, players had reported issues with its Performance Mode, which often looked rather blurry. With these visual improvements, hopefully Performance Mode will not just deliver fluid 60fps but also stunning visuals – even if it’s not quite the immaculate 4K resolution of Graphics Mode.

Much like its predecessor, FF7 Rebirth is one of the most anticipated new PS5 games and this update only turns the heat up on what’s likely to be one of the best PS5 games. After sinking many hours into the demo alone, the wait for Sephiroth was worth it and we can’t wait to see how the iconic moments of the original are reimagined – especially its most powerful scene, which will no doubt be more emotional than ever.
