Which legendary players will be debuting or returning as FIFA 23 Icons this year? It’s a burning question on every FIFA fan’s mind. From footballing legends like Diego Maradona, Johan Cruyff, and Zinedine Zidane, the FIFA series has celebrated some of the greatest to have ever played the beautiful game over the years, and this year’s iteration won’t be any different.
While we don’t have a confirmed list of the FIFA 23 Icons just yet, we do know that they’ll celebrate footballing greats from the past and the present. And with this year’s game putting a focus on the upcoming World Cup, there are quite a few names that have made their mark on previous World Cups that could quite easily make this list.
For those not in the know, Icon cards are some of the best in the game. Each player gets four different cards – all celebrating different parts of their career – and these cards can be slotted in pretty much anywhere in your Ultimate Team without a hitch. Unlike normal cards – or the FIFA 23 Hero cards – Icons do not have any link-building restrictions, so they won’t negatively affect your team’s overall chemistry.
But who is likely to make the list this year and who will be the best FIFA 23 Icon in the game? Here’s everything we know about these players as we creep ever closer to the FIFA 23 release date.
FIFA 23 Icon leaks
Ever since the game was announced, fans have been desperate to find out who will make this year’s FIFA 23 Icons list. So far, a couple of leaks have hinted at a few big names that could be added – but these haven’t been confirmed by EA yet.
The leaked FIFA 23 Icons are:
- Arjen Robben (Netherlands)
- Rudi Völler (Germany)
- Gerd Müller (Germany)
- Gabriel Batistuta (Argentina)
- Jairzinho (Brazil)
- Zico (Brazil)
- David Villa (Spain)
- Alfredo Di Stefano (Argentina)
These names, if confirmed, will likely join the majority of Icons named in FIFA 22. However, while the likes of Zidane, Ronaldinho, and George Best are likely to return, it’s unlikely that Diego Maradona and Marc Overmars will be on that list after both were removed from FIFA 22 after the game launched.
