22/03/2024 The FIFA 21 servers have been taken offline, meaning this content is no longer accessible in-game.

In FIFA 21, January meant only one thing for Ultimate Team fans, and that was Team of the Year. Oh, and Christmas noobs, but mostly Team of the Year. This team of 12 (yes, 12) players was a souped-up Team of the Week, showcasing the players who had made the biggest impact in world football over the last 12 months.

As sought-after Team of the Week players got a nice little boost to their stats and a sleek black card, those featured in Team of the Year took that to the next level in one of the best sports games. These players were briefly available in packs and eventually trickled onto the transfer market – but you’d need millions of coins to be in with a chance. Team of the Year is an annual FUT tradition, and FIFA 21 was no different. These players changed the game for the rest of the season, especially as the biggest streamers used these cards while the rest of us could merely watch.

The FIFA 21 Team of the Year players were:

  • ST: Cristiano Ronaldo – 98
  • ST: Robert Lewandowski – 98
  • ST: Kylian Mbappe – 97
  • CAM: Bruno Fernandes – 97
  • CDM: Joshua Kimmich – 96
  • CAM: Kevin De Bruyne – 96
  • LB: Alphonso Davies – 93
  • CB: Virgil Van Dijk – 96
  • CB: Sergio Ramos – 96
  • RB: Trend Alexander-Arnold – 94
  • GK: Manuel Neuer – 96

This event ran from Friday, January 21, 2021, until Tuesday, February 2, 2021, giving players just under two weeks to nab these valuable cards.

For the best chance of grabbing a Team of the Year player, your best bet was to open packs once all players were available, maximizing your returns. However, if you were after a specific player to strengthen your team, then opening packs when their position was available effectively increased your chances of pulling them – though you’d still have to be lucky enough.

With the event now over – and the FIFA 21 servers officially taken offline, these powerful cards are no more, unfortunately. Nevertheless, they were the pinnacle of team formations for quite some time.
