If you’re a Formula One fan with an Xbox console and an active Xbox Game Pass subscription, we have some good news for you. Frontier Developments’ F1 Manager 2023 is joining the service in a matter of days. Although, if you’re a fan of the series, there’s also some troubling news when it comes to its’ future; Frontier Developments is announcing layoffs and the performance of its management sim (and wider portfolio of games) seems to be the reason.

We know Frontier Developments’ F1 Manager 2023 might not be the first game you think of when you throw together a list of the best racing games out there – on account of it being a management sim – however, it really is one of the best sports games of the year if you’re a Formula One fan. From October 19, if you’re someone who wants to try your hand at being a Team Principal in the world’s fastest motorsport, this is one of the best Xbox Game Pass games for you.

Although, the promise of more players through Xbox Game Pass isn’t enough to stave off Frontier Developments’ “organizational review” – as reported by VGC.

Through a message shared with the London Stock Exchange, Frontier Developments’ review is expected to result in a hiring freeze, redundencies, and spending cuts – all of which should conclude in early 2024. This, notably, is before the next F1 Manager game is expected to launch – quite a bit before, in fact. We don’t know anything about the future of the franchise yet, but this could mean the next iteration of the game (if it does arrive) isn’t much of an improvement on F1 Manager 2023.

Frontier Developments’ “period of disappointing financial performance” is the reason for layoffs, with reports stating that the developer’s stock prime has dropped 80% since the start of the year – a staggering amount in any industry.
