While Dragon’s Dogma 2 boasts impressive fights and a massive, gorgeous open world, navigating it can be quite troublesome. Launching without any Performance Mode settings for players on Xbox and PS5, roaming around Capcom’s RPG can be off-putting if you’re averse to anything between 60 FPS. Now, the latest Dragon’s Dogma 2 update adds some small yet meaningful tweaks to improve the game’s console capabilities.

It’s odd for most new PS5 games or new Xbox games to launch without settings to improve performance, making Dragon’s Dogma 2 an outlier among modern-day releases. In the new Dragon’s Dogma 2 patch notes, Capcom details three new graphical settings that will debut on PS5 first, before heading to Xbox shortly. Specifically, the developer clarifies that the following settings are available right now:

  • Adding the option to switch Motion Blur on/off in Options
  • Adding the option to switch Ray Tracing on/off in Options
  • Adding the option to set Frame Rate at Max 30fps in Options

If you weren’t aware, Capcom’s huge RPG game runs with a variable framerate, rather than consistently running at a smooth 60 FPS. In our experience, the game’s performance dips in busier sections like boss fights or densely packed areas of the map. We’ve been playing around with these new settings, and while it isn’t perfect, it is a step in the right direction.

Notably, fighting Drakes isn’t as taxing on the PS5, although we encountered some minor frame drops while evading fire and lightning blasts. However, on the whole, it makes this captivating open world game all the more enjoyable to dive into. But the improvements to the game’s performance options aren’t finished here. Capcom notes that “improvements to [the] frame rate are planned for future updates.”

While a timeline isn’t provided for when players can expect these updates, we anticipate another major patch to be released by the end of April. Furthermore, regarding this particular update, Capcom confirms that “updates to Xbox Series X|S are planned in the next few days.” It’s a promising start for the game’s post-launch period, despite grievances over microtransactions that pertain to easy-to-acquire items in-game.
