If you’re just starting out in Dragon’s Dogma 2, then you’re likely getting trounced by every cyclops and their mother. It’s surprisingly unforgiving – especially as getting new gear can be a rare occurrence if you’re not braving every nook and cranny of the PS5 and Xbox game’s massive world. Well, it turns out that you can get one of the best Dragon’s Dogma 2 armor sets almost right away – and completely free of charge – by simply looting a chest in Vernworth Castle.
Once you reach Vernworth in Dragon’s Dogma 2, the first capital city you’ll visit after around an hour or so of gameplay, you’ll have everything you need to start gearing up in one of the best RPG games. The armor set in question is the Marcher’s uniform, which can be worn by all Dragon’s Dogma 2 vocations.
To get it, simply head up to Vernworth Castle during the day and waltz right in. Through the large wooden doors, take your first right and then take the small door to your left to enter The Guardhouse. Once here, just loot the chest right in front of you to be rewarded with the Marcher’s armor, cuisses, and helm. It really is as simple as that, and it’ll serve you very well in one of the best PS5 games and best Xbox games of the year so far.
This is one of the best early game armor sets because it can be worn by every vocation, despite its heavily armored appearance. Likewise, it also boasts remarkably strong defense compared to its weight. In other words, you’ll have all the protection you need at the start of the game without maxing out your carry weight in return. Plus, it also looks amazing, especially compared to the scrags you start with.
However, the Marcher’s armor isn’t the only secret that Vernworth Castle holds. Head back to the entrance, walk straight ahead from the main door, then take a left up the staircase and you’ll find the Audience Chamber throne room. Behind the chest, you can grab the snazzy Heraldic Cape to go along with your dashing new armor set. We’ll ignore that we just stole a cape intended to be “granted to those who have proven their loyalty to the kingdom”…
If you’re looking to make a quick buck, the nearby Venworth Castle Gaol Tower, found in the courtyard, has a secret well that you can jump down to find a second set of the Marcher’s armor that you can sell. Alternatively, perhaps you could give your loyal pawns an arsenal upgrade if you’re feeling generous.
Nevertheless, this gear will serve you well in the harsh wilds of one of the best open-world games right now on PS5 and Xbox. With so much stuff to discover and rare loot to find, make sure you’ve got your head on a swivel in the new PS5 game and new Xbox game.
