In an effort to satiate players’ demands for more meaningful endgame content in Diablo 4, Blizzard is (funnily enough) introducing a brand new endgame activity to Sanctuary in Patch 1.2.3 – and it has the potential to be the toughest challenge you’ve faced yet. If you want to tackle the upcoming Diablo 4 Abbatoir of Zir pinnacle endgame dungeon, though, you’re going to need to start preparing for it like yesterday – it’s arriving sooner than you might think.
Blizzard’s Diablo 4 is one of the best RPG games of the year, that much is clear, but it’s no secret that it has been having a tough time keeping players engaged when it comes to the endgame content on offer – especially when you look at all the fantastic new PS5 games and new Xbox games out there. Sure, the start of the latest season of content saw some important improvements introduced, but there’s still a lot of work that needs doing if this game is going to really stand the test of time. In an effort to give players boasting some of the best Diablo 4 builds even more of a challenge ahead of Season 3, and begin work improving this endgame experience, Blizzard is introducing the Abbatoir of Zir in its next patch – a patch which is due on December 5.
Described as an endgame dungeon, but almost definitely more of a relentless gauntlet for players to endure, the Abbatoir of Zir activity will throw you into an arena where you have to defeat a wave of enemies – and then a boss, that will spawn after that wave of enemies is defeated – in ten minutes or less. This might sound simple at first, and we can imagine that it will be quite simple initially, but the Abbatoir of Zir has 25 tiers for you to complete; these tiers continue to increase in difficulty as you progress and, as you might imagine, get quite hard towards the top-end of things.
With popular Diablo 4 content creators like ‘Wudijo‘ expressing that this activity is going to be so difficult by the final tiers that “you’re not really supposed to finish”, you’re really going to want to make sure you’re using one of the best Diablo 4 classes going into it. And, you know, you’re going to want to start preparing as soon as possible; the Abbatoir of Zir itself is only available until January 23, so you don’t have forver to try to master it, either.
Upon your first completion, however, even if that’s a completion of the easiest tier available, you’ll get your hands on the Tears of Blood Paragon Glyph – a powerful in-game item that will bolster any build you’re using, no matter the class. Early images of the Paragon Gylph show that it will give you 2% additional damage for every five Core Stats purchased and improve each Rare node within its range by 50% – again, no matter the class. With the ability to upgrade this Paragon Glyph to level 210, as well, this is going to be an invaluable bit of gear to get your hands on. These details, however, are yet to be confirmed – although, we don’t think the values will change drastically.
We can also imagine you’ll come across loot not too dissimilar to the loot you’d find in something like a Nightmare Dungeon, although Blizzard hasn’t clarifyied that just yet.
If you want to find out a little more about what you can expect, Blizzard is hosting a new Diablo 4 Campfire Chat to discuss the Abbatoir of Zir activity, the upcoming Midwinter Blight seasonal event, and some of the Quality of Life changes you can expect to see in the future on November 30 at 11:00 PST / 14:00 EST / 19:00 GMT. This will be available on YouTube and Twitch and Blizzard will follow this stream up with a blog post recapping what was revealed.
For now, though, while we wait for all that extra information, why not check out this fan-made Diablo 4 event tracker; it really is the perfect tool for preparing for the Abbatoir of Zir and any other Season 2 activity you want to get read for. These new Diablo 4 Season of Blood uniques are also worth keeping an eye out for too, especially if you’re fresh to the endgame experience.
