Destiny 2 Season 17 release date, Solar 3.0, trailer, and more

Here's everything we know about the Destiny 2 Season 17 release date, the new PvP map, Iron Banner changes, as well as leaks and rumours about new content

Destiny 2 Season 17 release date: Lord Saladin of Destiny 2's Iron Banner stands in his armour

Destiny 2 Season 17 is right around the corner, but Bungie are being uncharacteristically tight-lipped about a lot of the details. As expected this has led to some rampant speculation on the behalf of Destiny 2 players, which Bungie doesn’t seem overly keen to quell.

We still don’t even have a title for the 17th season yet, nor a full list of expected changes, updates, and additions. We don’t even know where the story will go, but given the revelations dropped on us in The Witch Queen campaign and the subsequent Vow of the Disciples Raid, there are multiple courses it could take.

That said, a recent This Week at Bungie blog did reveal some interesting facts to keep fans baited, so while we wait for the final info drop before the new season launches, we’ve rounded up everything we know about the Destiny 2 Season 17 release date, as well as leaks and rumours we’ve heard.

Destiny 2 Season 17 name

Destiny 2 Season 17 will be called Season of the Haunted – a nod not only to the “Moon’s haunted” meme but to the spooky feel of the season with the return of the Leviathan.

Destiny 2 Season 17 release date

The Destiny 2 Season 17 release date is Tuesday, May 24. The new season will launch with the weekly reset on 10am PT/ 1PM ET/ 6pm GMT. Players who buy or own the Season Pass will be able to jump straight into the new seasonal content. Destiny 2 Season 17 Solar 3.0

Destiny 2 Season 17 will see the Solar subclass given a 3.0 rework. Bungie hasn’t revealed full details yet, but a sneak peek can be seen in the Season of the Haunted trailer (which you can watch further down in this guide).

Destiny 2 Season 17 Iron Banner changes

Unarguably the biggest announcement so far for Season 17 is that Bungie is completely overhauling the Iron Banner event. With Lord Saladin now a member of Empress Caiatl’s War Council, the newly-titled Bracus Forge will only be visiting the Tower twice per season. Iron Banner will run for just two weeks, with the first beginning on May 31 and the second on July 12.

Reputation rewards will now be earned in the same way as the other vendors such as Zavala and Saint-14. Changes have been made to the speed at which reputation is earned, but Bungie’s aim is to get players grinding the Banner for a solid week as with other Seasonal Events.

Destiny 2 Season 17 new PvP map

For the first time in years we’re getting a brand new Destiny 2 PvP map. Disjunction is a symmetrical map based in the swamps of Savathun’s Throne World, and is built around the concept of lanes. Partly, this is down to the Rift game mode returning from Destiny 1.

Rift shares DNA with Halo’s Oddball mode and sees players competing to seize and hold a Spark that will spawn in the centre of the map. The longer you can hold the Spark, the more points you’ll earn. More importantly, Rift will also be the new Iron Banner activity.

Destiny 2 Season 17 Trailer

On the morning of the Destiny 2 Season 17 update, Bungie dropped the Season of the Haunted trailer, showing some brief story snippets, gameplay, and a first look at the Solar 3.0 rework.

With so little time between now and the launch of Season 17, we’re expecting some final announcements from Bungie very soon. Until then, keep your senses sharp, stay on that power grind, and find some god rolls for the best Destiny 2 weapons!
