Cocoon release date
The Cocoon release date is Friday, September 29, 2023 on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch, as confirmed in the release date trailer. The game will also be launching on Game Pass day-one.
First announced at the Xbox-Bethesda 2022 showcase event, Cocoon had been primed for a 2023 launch for quite some time. Thankfully, the Annapurna showcase on Thursday, June 29, 2023, confirmed date for this enticing indie.
As mentioned, Cocoon will be available on Xbox Game Pass on day one for console and PC, so you can jump in right away if you’re subscribed to Microsoft’s service on either of those platforms.
The Cocoon story is about adventuring across worlds to unravel a cosmic mystery at the heart of the narrative. Besides this, not much else is known about the Cocoon story as of yet, which is important given it’s a puzzle game aiming for an air of mystery. Perhaps most excitingly, you’ll be diving through worlds within worlds, defeating Guardians which will hopefully create a complex and intriguing narrative.
Cocoon is a sci-fi puzzle game in which you journey between worlds as an insect-like creature, solving puzzles and interacting with the environment to progress. If you’ve played Limbo and Inside, then you’ll be familiar with the style, though this game does shake it up with a top-down perspective and a pretty unique mechanic, hopping into worlds contained within orbs and out of them. You can then take these orbs around other worlds, moving them to solve puzzles and potentially opening up new pathways.
These orbs may reveal pathways, allow you to solve puzzles, enable you to power devices, and assist you to enter other worlds. For example, you safely avoid a dangerous barrier by hopping out of a world, waiting for it to pass by, and then hopping back in. There are also boss fights too!
Overall, the game is looking incredibly impressive from the latest demo at Day of the Devs 2023.
