Choosing which MMORPG to commit your time to can be a tricky endeavour with choices like The Elder Scrolls Online and Destiny 2 ready and raring to go. Offering a different fantasy RPG world to explore is Chrono Odyssey, the latest game from Gran Saga developer Npixel. Giving potential players an insight into its new world, Npixel unveils an extended look at the game’s mythical gameplay, lore, and time-focused spin on going into battle.

“At first glance, Chrono Odyssey may seem like your typical MMORPG, but what sets Chrono Odyssey apart from the rest is its unparalleled graphics, made by the UE5 engine and our accumulated expertise,” says Npixel’s Samuel Seo. Taking place in the open world of Setera, the forthcoming action RPG claims the game’s combat reaches “new heights by incorporating the Chrono (time) element,” which will “provide a dynamic social experience unlike any other.”

Chrono is central to the game’s combat too, which appears to be taking a few notes from Dark Souls’ hefty, weighted approach to pummeling bosses and brutal beasts. However, unlike the legendary FromSoftware series, players can manipulate time itself to gain the upper hand in deadly encounters.

Using Unreal Engine 5 to bring the experience to life, the developer details that Chrono is “a force that not only drives the storyline but also plays a pivotal role in combat and progression. With the ability to manipulate time and space, you’ll be able to stop time, rewind events, explore other timelines and overcome seemingly insurmountable challenges.”

Players can choose from six different classes, with character customisation options available to tailor your character to your personality and aesthetic preferences. The game’s classes are as follows:

  •  Swordsman
  • Ranger
  • Sorcerer
  • Paladin
  • Berserker
  • Assassin

Though the Chrono Odyssey release date isn’t quite on the horizon just yet, Npixel promises “epic battles alongside hundreds of other players” that eventually lead to confronting “the massive Eltanius, one of many powerful bosses within the game world.” The latest gameplay trailer for PS5 and Xbox unveils several beasts and foes scattered around Setera, ranging from fiery dragons to supernatural creatures.

Whether Chrono Odyssey turns out to be one of the best games out there for MMORPG fans is still up in the air, but for now, check out the best PS5 multiplayer games that are available to play right now.
