Call of Duty Vanguard Season 1 is now over and the original version of Warzone is now shut down, meaning the Welgun can’t be used in COD’s battle royale.
Call of Duty Vanguard and Warzone Pacific Season 1 introduced a brand new SMG, the Welgun, into players’ arsenals. As if you weren’t spoiled for choice already…
The Welgun looks like someone shrunk an LMG, but in reality this is a purebred SMG with devastating firepower. It might appear like it was cobbled together in a shed, but it is actually a close relative of the Sten. However, thanks to built-in grips, it had far better accuracy and recoil control. It was gave players great movement speed and ADS times while wielding one.
Once upon a time, it was more than deserving of a place on our illustrious best Warzone guns list – but how did you unlock the Welgun in Warzone Pacific Season 1?
Welgun Warzone unlock
The Welgun was unlocked for use in Warzone Season 1 by either completing an in-game challenge or buying a Welgun blueprint from the store. The latter obviously set you back some hard-earned cash, but saved you a lot of time grinding away at the challenge.

Due to Warzone and Call of Duty Vanguard being linked, there were actually Welgun unlock challenges for you to choose from across the battle royale game, multiplayer, and Zombies. You only had to complete one of these challenges.
- Multiplayer: Get 10 kills with an SMG while aiming down sights in a single match 15 times
- Zombies: Get 5 rapid critical kills with an SMG during 50 different Portal Objectives
- Warzone: Get 10 ADS kills with SMGs in a single match 15 times
Welgun blueprint
Alternatively, if you want to unlock the Welgun without grinding a challenge in Warzone or Vanguard, you’ll be able to get it by purchasing a bundle from the store which contains a Welgun blueprint.
The first bundle, which was released on January 12, was called Reserved Steel.
The Welgun was a nice mid-season surprise, and certainly had an impact on the Warzone meta. Those unlock challenges were definitely worth it.
