Welgun Warzone unlock – how to get the new Season 1 SMG

The Welgun is a new SMG coming to Call of Duty Warzone Pacific Season 1. Here's how to unlock it to use in your Warzone loadouts

Warzone Welgun unlock: A rusty WW2 submachine gun sits on a blue crate

Call of Duty Vanguard and Warzone Pacific Season 1 will introduce a brand new SMG, the Welgun, into players’ arsenals. As if we weren’t spoiled for choice already.

The Welgun looks like someone shrunk an LMG, but in reality this is a purebred SMG by the sounds of its description. It might look like it was cobbled together in a shed, but it is actually a close relative of the Sten. However, thanks to built-in grips, it has far better accuracy and recoil control. It’s also described as “extremely compact”, leading us to believe you’ll have great movement speed and ADS times while wielding one.

It certainly sounds like it will go toe to toe with other viable SMGs for a spot on our illustrious best Warzone guns list – but how do you unlock the Welgun in Warzone Pacific Season 1? Let’s jump into this guide and find out, shall we?

Welgun Warzone unlock

The Welgun can be unlocked for use in Warzone Season 1 by either completing an in-game challenge or buying a Welgun blueprint from the store. The latter will obviously set you back some hard-earned cash, but will save you a lot of time grinding away at the challenge.

Welgun unlock challenge

While we’re still awaiting the details of the Welgun’s unlock challenge in Warzone, its Vanguard unlock challenge is now live. Completing this challenge will of course let you use the weapon in both games.

The challenge in Vanguard is: “Get 10 kills with an SMG while aiming down sights in a single match 15 times.”

Remember, don’t leave your match once you’ve racked up your ten SMG kills – it won’t count towards this challenge if you quit before the match is over.

Welgun blueprint

Alternatively, if you want to unlock the Welgun without grinding a challenge in Warzone or Vanguard, you’ll be able to get it by purchasing a bundle from the store which contains a Welgun blueprint.

The bundle, which will release shortly after the mid-Season 1 update on January 12, will be called Reserved Steel.

The Welgun looks set to be a nice mid-season surprise, and it’ll be interesting to see how the Warzone meta develops and where it might fit in. Let’s just hope the Welgun is well good.
