Nickmercs condemns “awful” Warzone Operation Monarch event

The Warzone Operation Monarch event is here, pitting players against Godzilla and Kong, but Nickmercs isn’t a fan of what the battle royale is offering

It’s safe to say that Call of Duty Warzone players are currently being treated to the strangest event in the battle royale’s history with Operation Monarch. Stars of Legendary Pictures’ Monsterverse, Godzilla and Kong, are stomping around Caldera with players able to harness their power with the Warzone Operation Monarch SCREAM Device. While there are plenty of players enjoying this new event, one popular streamer isn’t having any of it – and he isn’t alone either. Nick ‘Nickmercs’ Kolcheff has offered a damning review of the event, labelling it “awful”.

On Twitter, Nickmercs shared the following in regards to Warzone’s new Operation Monarch limited-time mode: “This Warzone event is awful. Maybe we’re spoiled from the Fortnite ones, but damn bro. King Kong [and] Godzilla don’t even fight”.

It didn’t take Nickmercs long to share his opinion on the Operation Monarch event, tweeting his thoughts a matter of hours after the event went live on May 11. Around the same time, Herschel ‘Dr DisRespect’ Beahm also shared his thoughts – echoing a similar opinion, just in fewer words.

As you can see below, Dr DisRespect scored the Warzone event “2.2/10” with the comment “what am I… 9 years old?”

Of course, these views aren’t representative of the opinions held by the wider Warzone community – but, they’re not a good look for a battle royale that’s repeatedly criticised for its lacking seasonal content updates and poor performance.

Either way, Call of Duty Warzone’s popularity is in decline and it doesn’t look like Operation Monarch is going to change that. Looking at the stats provided by PlayerCounter, Warzone sits on roughly 300,000 players. Apex Legends, which has also just seen a major update drop, sits on almost 1,000,000 – according to PlayerCounter. Fortnite, as referenced by Nickmercs earlier, sits comfortably above both of them at around 3,000,000.

It’s clear that Call of Duty Warzone is still popular, though, but it’s clear that the Call of Duty Warzone 2 release date can’t come soon enough.
