Call of Duty Vanguard Trophy System unlock challenge scrapped

Call of Duty Vanguard Season Three is here on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC - and players are going to be able to get their hands on the new Trophy System for free

Call of Duty Vanguard is finally getting a Trophy System through Season 3 – and players are thrilled. However, when this was first announced as an unlockable Field Upgrade in pre-release coverage from Sledgehammer Games, there were concerns about how players were going to be able to get their hands on the new equipment. Namely, the unlock challenge requirements were bonkers. Following fan outrage, though, Sledgehammer Games has announced that all players will be given the Trophy System Field Upgrade free of charge, meaning they won’t have to complete any challenges.

Before this revelation, the Trophy System Field Upgrade unlock challenge required players to “survive 15 different matches without being killed by a grenade”, according to the in-game menus. You don’t need to be a pro player to know that this would be a lot harder than it should be – near-impossible, in fact.

So, as you can imagine, players were a little peeved at having to dodge grenades for at least 15 matches to unlock something that would then protect them from grenades. Just hours after the Vanguard Season 3 update was released, Sledgehammer Games announced the following:

“ Upon logging into Season Three for the first time, all players will be granted the new Trophy System Field Upgrade; no challenge completion required.”

Yes, you are reading that right. Call of Duty Vanguard players are getting the Trophy System for free – a Field Upgrade that many thought should have been available in-game from the start.

In Call of Duty Vanguard, the Trophy System Field Upgrade will effectively intercept Frag Grenades, Sticky Bombs, and No. 69 Stun Grenades. It won’t, like previous Call of Duty games, intercept throwing knives or launcher projectiles.
