COD fans, it is a glorious time if you’ve been waiting for Modern Warfare 2 to bring some iconography back to the game. The Modern Warfare 2 Season 4 release date will extract Showdown from its Warzone 2 POI for multiplayer skirmishes, taking us back to the glory days of Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare. And you’ll even get to use an MW2 (2009) era weapon in the process – this new ISO 45 is the UMP-45 equivalent you’ve been looking for.
Taking a few cues from the 2019 reboot, developer Infinity Ward is giving players the power of the ISO 45 SMG, which is effectively an updated version of the 2009-era UMP-45. Known for absolutely ruining opponents on maps like Rust and Terminal back in the day, Infinity Ward explains that this “throwback to Modern Warfare (2019) […] functions similarly to the old ISO […] its higher-caliber rounds make it a heavy-hitter compared to its fast-firing counterparts.”
Hailed as MW2’s solution for “room clearing”, this UMP-45 tribute of sorts promises a “high fire rate and the stopping power of .45 Auto rounds.” But you’ll need an excellent map to showcase it in, of course. MW2 Season 4 has got you covered there, with the multiplayer debut of a revamped version of Showdown from COD4.
Present currently in the “Ahkdar Village area of Al Mazrah,” the developer shares that “this iconic map drops into Modern Warfare 2 at Season 4’s launch.” To give you an even bigger nostalgia hit, Infinity Ward encourages players to “drop airstrikes and helicopter killstreaks with gold weapons just like old times.” We’re more than ready to dominate with the best Modern Warfare 2 Season 4 guns.
Showdown will arrive with tweaks, however. The recent COD blog post clarifies players can expect to “know that it is exactly how you recall it with a few modern changes. Namely, some mantling/mounting spots and set pieces that bring it into Al Mazrah.” The expansive Warzone 2 map brought other known locations such as Terminal, Afghan, and Highrise into the COD battle royale, but pleas to bring them into the game’s multiplayer continue to emerge.
With the mystery of the COD 2023 release date lingering, it is becoming unlikely that these maps will see a similar treatment to Showdown, but we can still hope to use our wicked FJX Imperium loadout on the Terminal escalator ladder – you know the one.
