If you are planning to play Modern Warfare 2 on PlayStation, you will want to be fully up-to-date on how the current-gen upgrade process works. So, to help you out we will go over the Modern Warfare 2 PS4 to PS5 upgrade process below.

As with all other Call of Duty games, you will need to fork out a bit more money to get that upgrade, but to do so you will need to know which editions of the game you can get.

Modern Warfare 2 PS4 to PS5 upgrade process explained

To get the Modern Warfare 2 PS4 to PS5 upgrade you will need to buy either the Cross-Gen bundle for the game or the Vault Edition. If you buy the regular version of the game or the Standard Edition at retail for PS4 you won’t be eligible for that free upgrade and will have to pay for the upgrade later down the line on the PlayStation Store.

This does mean that you have to spend either $70/£70 or $100/£100 for either of these editions, which is pricey. However, seasoned Call of Duty players shouldn’t be surprised by this as this is the third year that Activision has implemented this policy, without offering a free upgrade to those with the PS4 standard edition.

And that is it. The Modern Warfare 2 PS4 to PS5 upgrade process is pretty simple, albeit not consumer friendly. For more on the game, to get a brief overview before you jump in on PlayStation, check out if Modern Warfare 2 requires PS Plus and how crossplay works.
