EA and DICE have revealed that on-the-mend first-person shooter Battlefield 2042 is coming to EA Play later this month, and you know what that means gamers – it’s coming to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate as well.
The Game Pass library boasts dozens of EA Play titles, and Battlefield 2042 is the latest to join the crew. Among those titles are 2042’s beloved predecessors like Battlefield Bad Company 2 or Battlefield 4. While DICE has worked hard to rebuild 2042 after its frankly shambolic launch, it appears that player counts have still not reached the level that’s needed to keep it as a paid premium title.
The Battlefield 2042 Game Pass and EA Play release date is at the start of Season 3, which is expected to launch around November 22 (although EA and DICE have not 100% confirmed that date just yet).
As well as EA Play and Game Pass Ultimate subscribers now able to jump into the game at no extra cost, EA says there will also be “free access periods across all platforms” coming in December, so PlayStation players will also get a chance to try the game without splashing any cash.
“Experience the evolution and improvements we’ve brought to the game for yourself, and we look forward to welcoming you onto the Battlefield,” EA says in a blog post.
Season 3 will also finally welcome back the class system in Battlefield 2042 with its Specialist rework, but not until update 3.2 which is billed for early 2023. There’s also a new map coming, which from the sounds of DICE’s teaser, will be based in the studio’s home nation of Sweden.
