The British Academy of Film and Television Arts’ 20th annual gaming awards show is just around the corner, and now the BAFTA Games Awards 2024 nominations have been revealed. On Thursday, April 11, 2024 at 11am PT / 2pm ET / 7pm BST, everything from triple-A titans to indie diamonds will duke it out for the coveted bronze masks. And Baldur’s Gate 3 could come away with a mighty haul.
Recreating its form from December’s The Game Awards show, Baldur’s Gate 3 leads the line when it comes to nominations (ten). However, despite topping the list of best games at TGA, it once again finds itself up against stiff competition at the BAFTAs – particularly from TGA Game of the Year runner-ups Alan Wake 2 (nine) and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 (eight).
The best horror game and best PS5 exclusive of 2023 both have a bone to pick with Larian’s epic fantasy juggernaut and, fortunately, history has yet to record a full sweep by a single game. Only God of War Ragnarok has managed to notch up more than five wins during a BAFTAs ceremony, taking home six masks at last year’s show. With both contenders providing some of our best gaming moments of 2023 – more on that in our Alan Wake 2 review and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 review – BG3 is going to need a miracle to outdo Kratos.
Of course, Remedy and Insomniac aren’t the only studios looking to rain on the parade of one of the best RPG games ever made. As you’ll see from the ‘Best Game’ nominations below, there are plenty of other incredible games vying for BAFTA’s GOTY crown:
