World of Warcraft dungeon boss gets a helping hand from an unwitting party

Herald Volazj gets a surprise boost from several casts of Convoke the Spirits

The Hibernal Hollow in WoW Shadowlands' Ardenweald

Among the shiny new covenant abilities available in World of Warcraft’s Shadowlands expansion, few possess the sheer fun factor of the Druid Night Fae ability, Convoke the Spirits. Unfortunately, as one dungeoneering party found out, Convoke the Spirits has the potential for unmatched mayhem when commandeered by Ahn’kahet: The Old Kingdom boss Herald Volazj.

In a clip posted to Reddit, u/Cmdr_B_Hawkins_Jr et al. are diligently whittling away at Volazj’s health pool. After the boss falls below a third of its health, it casts Insanity on the group. Insanity isolates each member of the party, and creates an evil clone of each teammate that must be quickly dealt with.

The group’s healer – a Restoration Druid with low DPS output – is unable to kill off the duplicates in time. As a result of this, it seems that each duplicate steals and then casts Convoke the Spirits on Volazj, coating the boss with layer after layer of healing over time effects from multiple applications of Regrowth, Rejuvenation, and Wild Growth.

Despite the valiant dispelling efforts of Manny, the group’s Shadow Priest, Volazj’s monstrous healing brings the faceless one back up to nearly half health. In the end, dispelling is replaced by nuking the boss as hard as possible to try and outstrip its regeneration. Now that’s what we call a DPS check.

This interaction probably wasn’t planned for, considering that Ahn’kahet – a piece of legacy content from the Wrath of the Lich King expansion – is only accessible through the Timewalking Dungeon weekly. Nevertheless, it gave us a proper good chuckle.
