Warhammer 40K Darktide gives players the opportunity to immerse themselves in the gothic 40K universe, with one of the main avenues being player customisation. This leads to the important question of how to unlock and earn cosmetics in Warhammer 40K Darktide.
Alongside a wardrobe full of cosmetic armour pieces and accessories to unlock and earn, there is also extensive Warhammer 40K character customisation, including classes, home world, body type, and much more. Be sure to read up on the Warhammer 40K Darktide classes before making your choice!
How to unlock and earn cosmetics in Warhammer 40K Darktide
There are several ways to unlock and earn different cosmetics in Warhammer 40K Darktide, including levelling up, Penances, and other external sources. Some cosmetic sources will require more time and effort than others, though each offers unique cosmetics to add to your collection.
Below are the current sources to unlock and earn cosmetics in Warhammer 40K Darktide:
- Levelling classes
- Twitch Drops
- Beta items
- Imperial Edition
Levelling classes and visiting the shop in Darktide’s hub area, the Mourningstar, will be the first way players will be formally introduced to the clothing system in Warhammer 40K Darktide. As you progress through the ranks with each class, you will unlock new cosmetic items for that class.
To unlock Warhammer 40K Darktide’s more flashy and valuable cosmetics, players will have to complete class-specific Penances. The Penance system in Darktide tasks players with completing certain challenges to earn rewards, usually Penance Points, though some unlock cosmetics. For example, the ‘Marked for Death’ Penance can be found in the Veteran’s Sharpshooter Penances page, tasking players with hitting four separate Weak Spots during a single use of Volley Fire to unlock the Pistolero’s Duty Uniform for the lower body.
Developer Fatshark has also run a Warhammer 40K Darktide Twitch Drops campaign ahead of release to give players the opportunity to earn unique cosmetics. While some Drops have passed, there are still more to come and Fatshark have promised more Twitch Drop campaigns in the future.
