The LCS has a new look going into the 2021 League of Legends season

The announcement video pivots from the league's old guard to its future stars

The 2021 League of Legends LCS logo

North America’s LCS has been given a new identity going into the 2021 League of Legends season. The rebrand follows the announcement of Korean LoL’s LCK overhaul earlier this week.

The big reveal was posted to Twitter, captioned: “A new era, made by the many #LCS”. The accompanying video opens with broadcasting talent Sam ‘Kobe’ Hartman-Kenzler and Gabriella ‘LeTigress’ Devia-Allen reflecting on the end of an era dominated by the likes of the now-retired Søren ‘Bjergsen’ Bjerg and Yiliang ‘Doublelift’ Peng.

The clip then pivots to some of the league’s future stars in Ian ‘FBI’ Huang, Mingyi ‘Spica’ Lu, and 2020’s rookie of the year, Edward ‘Tactical’ Ra. “These rookies are hungry for success,” Kobe states. “This year, they’re coming for blood,” LeTigress remarks as the new logo is finally revealed.

The new diamond-shaped typographic logo – which appears to represent a flame – has received a mixed reaction from parts of the community. Embracing the spirit of the logo, Ovilee ‘Ovilee’ May for example was quick to meme its propinquity to Squarespace’s own emblem.

She was however also quick to follow up that she is “excited for the new split though.” As are we, Ovilee. As are we.
