Another videogame set in the iconic sci-fi Terminator franchise is coming from Nacon Studio Milan and it sounds very good. For some players, the Terminator Survivors release date is fairly close, so here we’ll go over everything announced about the game so far.
Nacon’s Terminator survival game will take place in a post-apocalyptic open world where players control a group of survivors post-nuclear apocalypse, fighting Skynet’s best to survive. While it does feature an original story with original characters, Nacon has confirmed that it’s going to be set between the events of Terminator Judgement Day and the creation of John Connor’s resistance. But what else do we know about it?
Terminator Survivors early access release date
Nacon has confirmed an early access Terminator Survivors release date of Thursday, October 24, 2024, which coincides with The Terminator’s 40th anniversary. The game’s early access launch will be on PC only.
Nacon has not given a date or window for the game’s full launch, and hasn’t commented on how long it expects Terminator Survivors to stay in early access for.
It has however confirmed that the open-world game will “be available on consoles at a later date”, per a press release. The ending of the game’s ‘Aftermath’ trailer, which you can watch further down this guide, confirms that those consoles will be PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Terminator Survivors trailers
The very first trailer we saw of Terminator Survivors came before its name was even announced. Its reveal trailer from July 2022 simply referred to it as the ‘Terminator Survival Project’ and provided a short cinematic teaser.
Then in February 2024, the game’s name was official confirmed and another cinematic trailer, titled ‘The Aftermath’, was released. While it didn’t show any true gameplay footage, it did give you a real sense of the game’s aesthetic and hinted at some of the things you’ll be doing to survive.
Terminator Survivors gameplay
Although we haven’t seen any gameplay yet, we do have some early details on what Terminator Survivors is all about.
This is a solely PvE experience with an original Terminator story, and it can be played either solo or as a co-op experience in a group of up to four players. There are no immediate plans for any kind of PvP or competitive, shared-world modes.
Terminator Survivors is also an FPS game and not a third-person game like many predicted before its full reveal.
As well as having to survive the post-apocalyptic world, there will be one single (but very deadly) Terminator hunting you down, rather than there being a legion of units for you to avoid or destroy. “The inclusion of a single T-800 in the game serves not only to uphold the integrity of the franchise’s lore but also to deliver an immersive gameplay experience that pays homage to the films that inspired it,” Nacon Milan said in a blog post.
You will come up against hostile human enemies as well.
Terminator Survivors also includes vehicles. While Nacon hasn’t specifically confirmed how many or what types of vehicles there are, the Aftermath trailer does show two survivors driving a small jeep. The same trailer also shows a fuel gauge dropping to empty and the survivors locating a fuel can. While this could merely be stylistic, it seems quite deliberate and is likely hinting that fuel will be a precious resource and that vehicles can run out of gas.
There are also base building elements in Survivors. While it doesn’t sound like you can pitch up anywhere in the open world and start building, you can expand and improve the modest base you’ll start the game from.
