Roller Champions rated for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S after months without updates

Roller Champions has finally been rated for all platforms and some other clues could suggest the game is less than a month away

After more than a year since the game’s closed beta in February 2021, and a fair amount of silence around its development since then, Roller Champions has been rated for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch.

Recently rated by the ESRB, this seems to suggest Roller Champions is emerging after some time in the shadows. The official Twitter account for the game has kept responding to fans, saying the game is still due in the fiscal year 2021-2022. But, there have been no significant updates from developer Ubisoft Montreal for around 12 months. Roller Champions has been made playable quite a few times both publicly and privately and is a multiplayer roller derby game with a twist. Players try to pass a ball around a track and score a goal by throwing the ball into a ring on the side of the court, while the opposing team tries to do the same.

Responses to the early gameplay tests were positive, but it has been delayed and pushed back without much information being given by Ubisoft itself as to why.

In Ubisoft’s earnings call in May 2021, the publisher said it expected the game to release before the end of the fiscal year (March 31, 2022). And, interestingly the game was absent from Ubisoft’s most recent earnings call, listing the games that will release after April 1, 2022.

Therefore, with this ESRB rating and the information from the earnings calls, we could well see the game drop within the next 31 days. The Loadout has reached out to Ubisoft for comment.

As for where Ubisoft could decide to show the game off? Well, it could have its own event, or just a surprise launch. But, rumours are circulating that Sony is planning to have a big blowout showcase in March 2022, so we could see it there. Either way, we will keep you posted when we hear more from Ubisoft.
