Resident Evil 4 Survive Village: A group of Gernados can be seen

Are you wondering how to survive the village in Resident Evil 4 remake? This encounter is the first big challenge you will come across when you are playing and if you are not aware of how to prepare yourself, or some key strategies to take you may find yourself having a horrible time.

Thankfully, we have some key tips and advice to get you through it and survive so you can hear the bell ring and everyone stroll away in Resident Evil 4. Once you have got past this encounter you will then be able to move on through the Resident Evil 4 chapters.

To survive the village in Resident Evil 4, you should do the following:

  • Enter every house and collect as much ammo as possible
  • Don’t stop unless you have to as it’s better to run past enemies
  • Use Leon’s melee attack
  • Guide enemies in front of the cow and then drop the lantern to set it alight
  • Enter the last house on the left and grab the shotgun upstairs
  • Utilise the rooftops

The village is one of the toughest encounters in the game, mostly for how demanding it is off the bat and how overwhelmed you can become but with these tips, you should be able to survive a little easier.

Enter every house and collect as much ammo as possible

After stealthing past your initial group of enemies and taking out a few, you will want to enter as many outbuildings, houses, and shacks as possible, picking up ammo early before the larger group of enemies spawns later in the fight.

This is key to your survival as you just won’t be able to kill everyone so having pistol ammo or shotgun ammo to stun enemies and perform some of the attacks mentioned later in this guide is important.

Don’t stop unless you have to as it’s better to run past enemies

If you have played the original game, you already know this, but the key to surviving until the bell rings is to simply run around as fast as possible. Avoid enemies by sprinting past them, dodge any surprise grabs, use your knife, and shoot enemies in the knees to stun them, or in the head once or twice to perform a follow-up roundhouse kick.

This is especially true when the man with the chainsaw spawns as he can easily trap you or overwhelm you. So, staying far away, or just consistently running away from him and focusing on blinding or knocking down enemies to give you some space is a good idea.

Use Leon’s melee attack

I have already mentioned this above, but Leon’s melee attack is one of your core tools. Hitting enemies once or twice to stun them and then following up with a roundhouse kick is core to surviving the game, and also this encounter.

Using it can cause multiple enemies to be stunned and fall over, providing some great crowd control. The attack can also push the man with the chainsaw back.

Resident Evil 4 Remake Review: Leon can be seen shooting the lantern

Guide enemies in front of the cow and then drop the lantern to set it alight

One of the new features in the remake is the cow barn. Inside there is a cow with a lantern above it. A great way to wipe out a large group of enemies is to guide them in front of the barn and then shoot the lantern. The barn and the cow itself will ignite.

From there, the cow will then charge around at enemies, taking them out for you. This is a great way to disable or knock down a large group without having to expel too much ammo.

Resident Evil 4 Remake Review: The shotgun can be seen

Enter the last house on the left and grab the shotgun upstairs

To add to your arsenal, be sure to enter the last house on the left at some point. Up here you can find a shotgun on the wall as well as some grenades. This is a key weapon to surviving this encounter until the bell rings as it can stun the man with a chainsaw much easier.

Additionally, the shotgun can be sued to clear out rooms of enemies or knock them on the floor, allowing you to run past them.

Utilise the rooftops

Finally, following on from grabbing the shotgun, use the rooftops of these buildings. They can help give you time away from enemies and either collect ammo or reload your weapons.

Eventually, this will be a necessity as you get low on resources, so be sure to keep guiding enemies around the village and using your ammo where necessary.
