Gunfire Games’ Remnant 2 is shaping up to be quite the sequel, but we can’t help but feel as though it’s leaning a little hard on Fallout 4 when it comes to the newly-revealed Handler class. If you’re wondering why, all you need to know is that the Handler class gives Remnant 2 players their very own canine companion a-la Dogmeat in Fallout 4. And, if that’s not enough, we do have a trailer to talk about – and IGN has quite a few interesting details about the new character class, as well.
Speaking to principal designer Ben Cureton, IGN shares that he has said the Handler class feeds into the fantasy of always wanting to have somebody watching your back – in this case, a dog. “We’re cooperating, we’re working together, we’re taking down big enemies… I can draw aggro for it [and] it can draw aggro from me”.
You know what that sounds like? It sounds a lot like Dogmeat from Fallout 4, to us. The Handler class has been built with solo players in mind, and your companion can “be toggled into one of three modes” according to IGN: Guard Dog, Support Dog, and Attack Dog.
As you might imagine, Gunfire Games is taking the Ronseal approach to things and these three ‘modes’ do what they say on the tin – more or less. You can draw enemies away from you with Guard Dog, heal yourself and your allies with Support Dog, and let ’em loose with Attack Dog. It also looks like you can direct your dog with a ping system and – when you unlock the class’ Prime Perk – it can actually revive you.
We’re not here to put any words in any mouths, but this Remnant 2 Handler class trailer from IGN – which you should check out below – does reek of a different kind of wasteland. You know, the one with Nuka Cola and Power Armor in Fallout 4 – not the supernatural one infested with The Root.
Now, doesn’t that just look like a lot of fun – and very wholesome? If you want to know more about the Remnant 2 release date, you can find out more information here.
Is this going to be one of the best PS5 RPG games out there when it drops? Who’s to say – and the same goes for whether it will be one of the best Xbox RPG games available. What we do know is this: the Handler is going to be one popular class. When it comes to gaming, including man’s best friend is never a bad thing.
