Filmmaker Zack Snyder broke the internet in 2021 with Zack Snyder’s Justice League aka the Snyder Cut. The DCEU director returns to our screens this year with the upcoming sci-fi adventure movie Rebel Moon, but Snyder is already interested in expanding the Rebel Moon universe into other formats. A Rebel Moon game adaptation is in the works, joining the ranks of space games like Starfield and No Man’s Sky.
Appearing on ‘The Nerd Queens’ YouTube channel, Zack Snyder shares his perspective on the release of the Snyder Cut, his career with the DCEU, and his forthcoming movie Rebel Moon. Snyder is asked by Twitter user ‘nightwaynes’ whether he can offer any updates on the sci-fi movie, to which Snyder says that “it’s not a small time commitment to Rebel Moon […] the one thing that I’m really having a good time with, and I don’t even know if I’m supposed to talk about it, but erm, y’know this RPG [game] that we’re doing.”
Snyder attests that the Rebel Moon game is “so immersive and so intense, and so huge. We talked about how we would do the game, and we just said ‘let’s go’ […] all I’ll say is that like […] I always wanted to do an RPG [game] and it was pitched to me at this scale.” Conversely, the filmmaker affirms the large task of bringing the Rebel Moon universe to life through gaming: “Yeah it’s Rebel Moon like, [a] completely like realised universe and it’s really gonna be fun. Anyway, I’m not supposed to talk about it.”
Naturally, Snyder remains tight-lipped about any further details on the proposed Rebel Moon RPG game. Nonetheless, the prospect of Zack Snyder’s first proper foray into gaming is an exciting one, that’s for sure. Snyder’s works have been adapted into mobile games before, with both Man of Steel and Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice releasing titles that appeared on the iOS and Google Play storefronts in the past.
The Rebel Moon release date is a highly anticipated moment for both Snyder and sci-fi movie fans, as this marks the filmmaker’s second original story since the 2011 action movie Sucker Punch. Though the movie received mixed reviews upon release, it has since grown a cult following. With funding from Netflix, Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon 2 is already in the works, as the franchise begins to gain momentum.
