PS Plus will gradually add eight Yakuza games to various tiers of the subscription service over the course of 2022, Sony has revealed. This puts the service on a par with Xbox Game Pass, which also currently houses the same eight Yakuza titles for its subscribers.
However, the addition of these Yakuza games isn’t straightforward. Half of the games will be hitting the service next month, while the other four will be added later in the year. To add more confusion, they won’t all be on the same tier or tiers of the service either.
In August, PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium subscribers will get access to Yakuza Kiwami, Yakuza Kiwami 2, Yakuza 0, and Yakuza Like a Dragon. The latter will also be one of the free-to-keep PS Plus August free games that PS Plus Essential subscribers can also obtain.
Then later in the year, Yakuza 6: Song of Life will hit Extra and Premium, while the remasters of Yakuza 3, 4, and 5 will be added to PS Plus Premium only. This is due to Sony seeing any game that released before the PS4 arrived as a classic game, even if it’s a remaster, and classics are tied only to the Premium tier.
While it is a bit of a head spinner, at least subscribers of all tiers will be able to get at least some Yakuza in their lives.
